Police have confirmed that a man was shot in the Long Look area of Tortola last night, May 6.

A resident, who is a close relative of the man reportedly wounded, has taken to social media, appealing for prayer, and giving the victim’s name as Shaun Richards.

“He was shot to the head and other parts of the body… He lose a lot of blood,” said the relative. “About six shots [were] fired.”

The relative, who claimed that another family member fainted after she heard about the incident, mentioned the likelihood of the victim being flown to Puerto Rico for further treatment.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), in the meantime, said the wounded man is still undergoing treatment at Peebles Hospital on Tortola.

Usually reliable sources have told BVI News Online that a gunman walked up to the victim in a section of the community and shot him, in full view of other persons.

Since the incident, a photo of a young man said to be the suspect is being circulated on social media with the caption ‘trigger man from last night’s shooting’.

The RVIPF has NOT publicly identified a suspect in the matter.

“Police are investigating a shooting incident late last night in the Long Look area. One man is being treated at Peebles Hospital for injuries,” said Information Officer at the RVIPF Diane Drayton.

It is not the first time that a shooting is unfolding in Long Look within the last few months.

A bar owner, Franklyn Fahie, died after he was shot at his establishment in the community on January 6 this year. Police theorize that the incident was a robbery.

Another man, David ‘Mooney’ Springette, was ambushed, chased, shot and wounded near The Stickett on December 12 last year. Essadro Jefferson has been charged in relation to this attempted murder.

Meanwhile, Estavan Jefferson was shot and killed in The Stickette area on November 17 last year.
