Mather blasts law enforcement review report

Opposition legislator and Deputy Speaker Stacy ‘Buddha’ Mather.

Territorial At-Large Representative Stacey ‘Buddha’ Mather has criticised the recent law enforcement review commissioned by the Governor, claiming it exposes the territory’s national security weaknesses.

Speaking in the House of Assembly recently, Mather described the 175-page document containing 138 recommendations as a public declaration of the BVI’s vulnerabilities. He expressed grave concern over the decision to release such detailed information, likening it to publishing a security code for everyone to see.

“Who publishes the security code to their house for the world to read? Who gets up and says, here is the blueprint and the road map to where I am weak so that you can conquer me? Make it make sense for me, please,” Mather asked.

Mather acknowledged the historical context provided in the report, which mentions the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but he argued that continually citing these events as reasons for deficiencies is no longer sufficient. He questioned the timing and necessity of the report’s public release, given that some recommendations had already been addressed by the specified deadlines.

The report also highlights allegations of corruption within various law enforcement agencies, a point Mather found particularly troubling. He argued that without concrete evidence, such statements unfairly tarnish the reputation of the territory and its officials. “It says there are areas where you might have corruption. Does that not sound like every other country throughout the world? Why is it necessary to say that?” he asked.

Furthermore, Mather criticised the report for what he perceived as a lack of local consultation and collaboration. He noted that the report did not involve input from local elected representatives or the community, questioning the validity of some of its claims.

One of Mather’s key criticisms was the perceived lack of strategic planning in law enforcement. He noted that despite the emphasis on improving qualifications and resources for officers, the report seemed to undermine the capabilities of local law enforcement agencies. “They need to learn more. They need to get better qualified. I agree with it. But the way they describe law enforcement in the BVI, how will they ever get anything done?” he remarked.

Mather suggested that the UK should provide the necessary funding to implement the changes outlined in the report.

Perhaps they need to get it over with and suspend the Constitution of the BVI for a period of time in order for some type of stability/Stabilization in the BVI.

Did any of you commenters actually read the report before commenting? I wager not. Per usual, empty vessels make the most noise. The new comers in the HOA cannot and should not be blamed for the lack of proactively addressing these longstanding concerns. Yet every election you guys b gals vote in the same set of clueless people expecting change.

While the current administration who qualify for the Greedy Bill (Natalio, Sharie, Vincent, Kye) can care less about actually doing squat while they ride out the next couple years of their terms and get a pension for LIFE!!!!
