Men on bail found with guns and ammo

The guns recovered by police.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has reported that two males, known to be on bail, were detained following a special operation that led to the seizure of three firearms.

On August 24, police were conducting searches in designated hotspots when they encountered two suspicious-looking individuals in Purcell Estate, Tortola.

“The individuals attempted to flee on foot but were pursued and arrested by the officers. A subsequent search of their possessions and the area where they were initially seen resulted in the recovery of three firearms, two of which were high-powered assault rifles,” the RVIPF stated.

In addition, a large cache of assorted ammunition was recovered. The RVIPF has indicated that an investigation is underway to determine whether the weapons are linked to other crimes.

The police did not disclose the identity of the men who were also said to be on a nightly curfew. However, this operation follows two consecutive reports of shots fired, one of which occurred in Purcell Estate on August 20.

The RVIPF also confirmed reports of shots fired at a home in the Free Bottom area shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21.

Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool declared this operation a significant achievement in dismantling a criminal gang believed to be responsible for several firearm-related crimes in the territory in recent weeks. She also commended the officers involved for their bravery and dedication in protecting the community.

The public is encouraged to provide the police with any information that may be useful in solving these or other criminal activities. Information can be directed to the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS) or the RVIPF Intelligence Department at 284-368-9339.

The RVIPF assured the public that all information provided will be kept confidential.

Agree in that those arrested for crimes names should be made known to the public.

Now, the article did state that “the police did not disclose the identity of the men.”

The question is why not? Why shouldn’t the public be made aware of this information after an arrest?

I cannot fault bvinews for not publishing the names of these individuals because the names were not disclosed to them, at least the writer could have inquired further of the police as to why they were not disclosing those names, and state what ever reason provided in the article.

At any rate, this is a perfect case whereby these men’s bond should be revoked immediately and they should be placed under lock and key until their cases are tried.

Why? Surely as a condition of their bail, they must have been told they cannot engage in any other criminal acts while on bail.

Being in possession of guns and ammo in a hot criminal spot is clearly a violation of their bond. Furthermore, possession of a gun by regular citizens in the BVI remains illegal.

Sounds to me they were simple up to no good. Their bond should be revoked immediately.

I agree with you, but names are not published or released unless the individuals are actually charged. However, by right, in this case they could have been published as they are currently charged with an offence, being that the article said that the men are on bail, specifically a curfew. Basically they have breeched their bail conditions and were caught and usually its an automatic back to the cell, So in this case the names could have been published in my opinion.

According to the article, they were DETAINED…Thet were not arrested so their names and identity are not published.
      We possibly wont hear anything
else..BVI covers and protects the identity of its worse criminals..the network of criminal activity guns and drugs is evident thst it is inclusive o officials elected and otherwise.nurtured and protected.
The USVI would have arrested them based on several charges which are evident, fleeing the scene of a crime for ex,and
      their identity would have been
      announced by the time they
arrived at Balsum and their photos published. It is evident that the endemic criminal activity of murder and drugs in these BVI is a network which includes government officials elected and otherwise, their. We won’t be told the identity of these latest incidents. The happening will fade away with time.

En anónimo. ¿Por qué piensas que si las personas tuvieran una nacionalidad diferente, sus nombres se publicarían junto con sus apellidos y familiares? Suena muy divisivo en su comentario.

The law gun them down when they are caught. I was hoping to hear the police helicopter down in West End had blown the boat out of the water last night.

  6. Resident says:

This is great work RVIPF. Well done and thank you. Please keep going!

More coordinated check points with QRF pursuit teams, probably on motorbikes with 2 armed officers on, and an ARV in support.

Tortola is not a big place, with intersecting roads. Cut off teams with spikes and good comms should be able to close escape attempts down if it’s planned well.

The seized firearms in the photo looked very similar to those used in the Aladdin robbery a few months ago.

    Dear People of the BVI

The noise from Gun Shots and Bullets have become a normal entertainment in the Purcell and Free Bottom community.

This Gun Thing being going on for decades now. I am a resident of this community. I have made several complaint
to past Representatives, to Police Officers and Government Officials but it has continued.

The last set of Gun Shots and Bullets I heard was very close to where I live. It sound like one of those High Powered Middle East weapons like what Hamas have. I was expecting to find bullets in my yard.

This happen on August 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. – in Free Bottom area – in broad day light.

I hope the recent arrest that was carried out by the Police will help solve some of this problem.
