‘Money Boys’ gang dismantled!

Acting Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool

Acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool has declared that the “Money Boys” gang, a group linked to a series of burglaries and robberies across the BVI, has been dismantled.

While speaking on ZBVI radio on Tuesday, Vanterpool highlighted the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force’s (RVIPF) crime-fighting efforts over the past six months.

“We put in place a robust patrol team, both foot and mobile patrol. We also increased our armed response units,” she stated. “The Money Boys group has been dismantled. A number of criminal elements have been dismantled. Most of the members are in prison.”

Vanterpool credited the crackdown to increased police presence in known high-crime areas.

“All the hot spots are being covered 24/7 by our foot and mobile patrol, as well as our armed officers,” she explained. “For me, there was a group named the Money Boys, which were like a thorn in our flesh. And I’m happy to say that that group now is dismantled.”

Although most members have been arrested, some individuals remain at large. However, Vanterpool said “we don’t think that they are up in scale to that as yet.”

The Money Boys gang, which has been active in the territory for years, was previously linked to shootings, robberies, and firearm-related offences. Police have long identified Purcell Estate, Free Bottom, and Baughers Bay as crime hotspots. In a previous statement, the RVIPF noted that gang-related violence in the BVI has been exacerbated by the absence of specific anti-gang legislation, making it difficult to prosecute individuals based solely on gang affiliation.

Police remaining vigilant

Vanterpool reaffirmed that the police force remains vigilant despite the recent crackdown.

“Some of the areas that were concerning to us were Cane Garden Bay, Purcell Estate, Free Bottom, and East End as well,” she said. “Those are the areas that we targeted with the night patrols. A number of those areas have become very quiet. But we don’t want to get caught with our pants down. We don’t want to be caught off guard.”

She added that crime prevention efforts will continue, with increased patrols and intelligence gathering. “Our teams are making sure that they are being vigilant on the streets both morning and evening,” she stated.

“From August to now, we are so happy to say we have done a tremendous job in terms of crime.”

The RVIPF has urged residents to remain proactive in reporting crime and providing information. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigation Department or the RVIPF’s Intelligence Unit.

In jail is where the real strengthening and coordination happens. Just because you arrested some don’t mean they are dismantled. Most orders for criminal activities in the street, come from prisoners!

This is what you call ‘happy puppy’ behaviour. Arrest of gang members does not translate into dismantling of the gang. Gangs thrive in prisons and can direct their operations from there.

Stop blowing your own horn. Has any of these people been sentenced to imprisonment? I mean real lengthy term of jail time? A wise head keeps a still tongue vice versa. Clip your beak, especially knowing that many criminals go unpunished in the system.

  19. ... says:

No error in judgment I appreciate the update we at least do not have to fear them for a few years than them being active. Police have to get back to being part of the community not separate. To many of you have gotten used to this profession of preying on, discriminating against, separation and superiority from your fellow citizens.

You want the publics help them give us info dont act like you are 007 secret agent we dont need that here go to a war zone with those tactics & let us have trust in the officers seen in uniform.

  20. Photos of criminals says:

They need to put up photos of these idiots so the community will be aware when they come out because of our incompetent DPP. She needs to go! She is d**b as a box of rocks.

  22. Politics says:

I do not believe that the “Money Boys Gang” is dismantled. Not so easy.

Money is the root of all Evils and you cannot stop Evil. Evil is from the Devil and only God can stop or control Evil.

The only thing I see dismantling these Money Boys, Gagsters and Drug Dealers/Traffickers is when them get some bullets in them backside and end up in a casket.

What happened to the hundred plus of Unsolved Murders and Other Crimes in the BVI – Plus the Guns, the Riffles and Other Ammunition coming into the BVI. When are we going to dismantle these lists?

  23. Eldread says:

I think she wants to sound assertive for the job of commissioner, but anxiety will lead to failure, and you can’t be making statements like god will tell you what to do, science is is the applied principle in this case, just say your dedication to work and country make you feel enthused to go the distance in serving my country. The colonial gave you that god narrative so they know you talking superstition, not denying a true decolonize creator do exist, how else could we be here?
