More criminal investigations likely, Governor warns

Governor John Rankin.

Governor John Rankin has indicated that more criminal investigations are likely to spring from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report’s recommendations.

The Governor recently announced a number of criminal investigations into several state-run projects as well as the conduct of the Premier’s Office under former Premier, Andrew Fahie. And following that announcement, it was revealed that Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s office Dr Carolyn O’Neal Morton had been sent on leave as the investigations into that office proceed.

In a recent media interview this week, the Governor announced that, “there may be more [investigations]. Even before the Commission of Inquiry report came out there were already criminal investigations underway in relation to the [Elmore Stoutt High] school wall project and the BVI Airways project.”

The Governor noted that even as investigations move forward in tandem with audits being conducted by the Auditor General, additional criminal investigations may happen as a result of these.

The Governor further indicated that the purpose of the investigations is to determine what happened, particularly whether there was any criminal wrongdoing and if so, how those who are found culpable should be held to account.

“I think it’s absolutely the right thing to do and that’s going to help show the way forward to avoid the mistakes of the past and hopefully show us to better decision-making and better governance in the future,” he stated.

Just recently, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley expressed that his government was in full support of all the criminal investigations and audits that were being carried out.

The Premier posited at the time that the audits not only serve to hold persons accountable but also help to clear their names where there is an absence of any wrongdoing.

Governor. One criminal investigation we need is into the theft of the tax, social security and NHI payments that were paid by workers and stolen by their employers who never passed the deductions on to the government.

The main offenders were of course the members, relatives and cronies of the ruling elite. The theft was and is widespread. In some cases this theft went on for many many years. Because of who the offenders were nothing was done.

No one was punished apart from the workers , who , because their contributions were never made were put into a state of bad standing with labour and immigration. Some were refused work permit renewals and some were sent out of the country.

This is one of the biggest thefts and biggest wrongs of all.

      Investigate this please.

And don’t forget when the employees
Go to check to see if there payments were made
Some one in these offices would call your boss and let them know you’re there checking on there payments, and then you would get victimized.

My prayer is that the BVI will wake up and really see what is happening in this country. Your hatred for each other and your political and other tribal ways have clouded your views to the point that you cannot recognize who is the real enemy. I pray the scales are removed from your eyes before it is to late for you. All you have to do is study the history of this same situation that happened in many other Caribbean countries. How could the governor who has overall responsibility for good governance come out looking like a rose from the report when he sits in cabinet as the chairman and have so much power under the constitution to fix things but your local leaders come out looking like thieves. Don’t you think something is wrong with that picture?

It is my understanding that even though the Governor sits in Cabinet he has neither a vote or a veto. He can voice his opinion, no one has to heed it. So why he’s there is a mystery to me. So Governors going back a good many years should have been calling for these COIs apparently. That’s where I see they have responsibility.

Partial suspension is needed. Let the people manage their affairs. We don’t need any corrupt political party leading us. Can someone assist with ensuring that our political friends have a job? Despite they are ours and need to survive but not to the stringent of our tax dollars. Many are disappointed. Keep that Unity Government name in tact because independents will need it.

Didn’t Hezbollah introduce the dealer to Head Coach through Fahie’s gun toting bodyguards? What happens to the armed bodyguards? Who paid the bodyguards? Are they still being paid? How much were they paid? We’re they involved in any other drug deals or criminal actions? How did the Premier find them? Are they still rooming the streets with their guns doing deals? Why doesn’t this newspaper post their pictures so we can be aware and protect ourselves and our children and our pets.
