Natasha Chalwell appointed as Deputy Director of Tourism
The BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) has announced the appointment of Natasha Chalwell, former Director of Marketing for the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), as the new Deputy Director of Tourism.
The BVITB highlighted Chalwell’s extensive experience and achievements, noting her ability to support the Director in developing, implementing, and managing a wide range of tourism marketing strategies. These include overseeing the creation of the Board’s annual Marketing Plan, fostering partnerships within the regional and international tourism industries, and advancing the Board’s operational goals.
Chalwell’s role in the record-breaking recovery of the BVI’s cruise ship industry following the COVID-19 pandemic was particularly praised. Under her leadership, cruise arrivals reached unprecedented levels in 2023. The Board also acknowledged her previous tenure at the Tourist Board, where she successfully directed multiple international marketing campaigns and elevated the BVI’s reputation as a premier Caribbean destination.
“Her success in building strong, strategic partnerships has been vital to the territory’s tourism growth, positioning the BVI as a must-visit location on the global stage,” the BVITB stated.
Tourism Director Clive McCoy expressed enthusiasm about Chalwell’s appointment, emphasizing her expertise and strategic vision.
Chalwell holds a Bachelor of Science in International Tourism Management and an Associate’s degree in Hotel and Resort Management. With over 20 years of experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, the BVITB believes her background will be instrumental in advancing the territory’s tourism strategy and strengthening its hospitality and yachting sectors.
In addition to Chalwell’s appointment, the BVITB announced two other key hires: Odelcer Hanley as the General Manager for the United Kingdom and Feliza Fenty as the new International Marketing Manager.
Chalwell’s appointment comes nearly two years after the departure of former Deputy Director Rhodni Skelton in early 2023. Skelton, a 19-year veteran of the BVITB and former Film Commissioner & Events Marketing Manager, served as Deputy Director for five and a half years.
While reports of Chalwell’s appointment surfaced in August 2024, the official announcement marks the beginning of her tenure in shaping the future of BVI tourism.

congrats! it’s impressive how the Chalwell’s are still deeply ingrained in the territory from the days of sugar production.
It’s astonishing to see how many layers of bureaucracy have been piled onto what would amount to a small-cap firm in the private sector, with a budget of perhaps $10 million. You’ve got a Chairman, a Deputy Chairman, a Director, a Deputy Director, a Manager, a Manager of Special Events, and who knows how many more. The sheer amount of paperwork flying back and forth must make it a miracle that anything gets accomplished at all. Meanwhile, there are businesses managing $200 million without this bloated structure. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
I think MCCoy is on a slow walk out the door.
Well deserved! Good luck in the new role Natasha!
What do they actually do?
No doubt she will do well. She knows her job and actually cares.
