NDP has turned locals against expats for political gains — Fahie
The National Democratic Party (NDP) government is being accused of causing or encouraging segregation between locals and expatriates.
Opposition Leader Andrew Fahie levelled those accusations at a VIP press conference on Saturday; describing the move as a political play from the NDP.
“[I encourage] those who are Belongers by birth, those who are Belongers by status, those you are non-Belongers not to join into this frenzy that the current government is doing by trying to take the expatriate community to turn them against the indigenous and take the indigenous and turn them against the expatriate community just for votes,” Fahie said.
To support his claims, the opposition leader cited a number of NDP-commissioned Immigration policies, which he suggested prejudiced the local expat community — especially those from the wider Caribbean.
One such policy Fahie mentioned was the government’s decision to exempt Chinese nationals from the BVI’s visa entry requirements. The opposition leader then went on to denounce segregation in the British Virgin Islands.
“The Virgin Islands Party is all about the people whether they come from the Caribbean islands or not,” the party chairman said. “We’re not the ones who took the visa regime off of the Chinese and then leave the rest of people in the Caribbean, the ones who tell you that they love you is who did it. We’re not the ones who carry you up to get a residency, the ones who said they love you is who did it. We’re not the ones who carry your work exemption up to 20 years, the ones who said they love you is who did it. So they are talking love but they’re not showing love.”
“The Virgin Islands Party will be about uniting the people of the Virgin Islands and not dividing just to look for votes. That will leave this country in a mess that we will never recover from,” he added.

So is that the reason why mitsy wasn’t selected ?
Just stop your foolishness. Mitsy went through a democratic process and loss. It is as simple as that.
Corrections! Mitsy probably went through a democratrick procession. I can bet my toe nails nationality was a factor.
Not a big fan or supporter for Mitsy as a candidate, but I never thought she was not qualify, I do think she could have done better than s flax for sure.
I cannot vote flax on this one, wish it was mitsy, am willing to give NDP one of my at large votes..
I am so sick of this dude always crying I need seven baby bottles n seven comforters n seven bibs this dude can cry.one for each day of the week
Just not true or truth. The usual political tactics.
Everyone who has invested his life, his time, his money here should have a vote. Not just the minority who happen to have been “ barn here “.
Until that happens you will have a divided and economically unsound society.
Myrun strategically selecting candidates with down island parentage so i believe fahie
Whether they have down island parentage, they were all born here, they are from here oh my gosh man!!So they are good for something but not everything??
That attack the VIP launched on Myron about he is not from her will be punishment at the poles. There are many of us born here with outside parents waiting to deal with them come election. Day.
So you vote for personal reasons rather than what is good or not good for the country? Myron is a c—– and worse.
Stop lying. No one in VIP ever launched an attack on Myron. His own NDP is who did that but the spin doctor Myron trying to make it seem as if it is VIP to try to get political support and mileage. The majority of us know better.
The UK created the law that denied Passport to children born to expat, but it is the VIP who created the law that took away belongership from children born to expat.
We will make the bvi great again, from good to great.
Every island person gravitating towards voting ndp because they see myron as their savior. He fooled them into thinking that he could change england laws
I see y simpson didn’t get true. .they only for locals who born here who mashing up their own country. ..sad thou
I know how it is living in a place where you were born and just because your Mother or father was born somewhere else you are made to feel like a damn foreign alien. There is enough of us to get Myron elected.
VIP, Claude and the founders of PVIM realize they made a mess with attacking Myron over the born here issue so they trying now to turn it around by blaming NDP. Was it NDP that wrote an email saying the Myron can’t run for Premier and threatening to go Privy Council? That’s was the VIP including Andrew Fahie. I recall even hearing Carvin Malone call in on the radio about it. Claude was one saying Myron couldn’t be Premier because his family isn’t from here and then he sent his uncle John on the radio to say we are all one because they realized the damage they caused. Don’t forget the talk shows with Carl Dawson, Julian Gordon and others. Then the new PVIM party was formed because thenso called indigenous didn’t want to follow Myron. So I guess all this is NDP’s fault. It’s NDP trying to cause division by making all these other groups speak out and show their bigotry. Bad NDP!
SO IT IS OKAY FOR A ISLAND MAN TO VOTE FOR A ISLAND MAN BUT NOT WHEN A LOCAL SAY HE WANT TO VOTE FOR A LOCAL???
This is why the black man will always get left behind. At such a critical time for the BVI, we should be working together united, but instead we fighting, and while we fight the rest of the world watch.
Absolutely correct, but it is also a major psychological problem of the Black man, one of which he is now fully aware, but is rather psychologically helpless in correcting.
If, however, if the last fifty thousand years of his African history, up to the beginning of recorded European history, was to be taught in every home, school and university for a thousand years, we will begin to see the evolution of a new Black man and mind.
As for the Willie Lynch papers, they were master pieces of how to dehumanise and retard the mind of the Black man.
The mental psychological realities and manifestations we see and live everyday.
Look for example, at how we disrespect and tear down our leaders from top to bottom, but one will never read a single negative blog about the Governor or Chief of Police.
Why, in the minds of many, they are our God ordained masters, believe it or, even if such a thought makes one sick to the stomach.
So lastly, yes, they are watching and waiting to see who next we will select that they may continue their goal of acquiring the rest of our lands.
And remember, they are patient, cunning and very long term planners. We had better wake up from our psychological stupor of fighting each syndrome before we find ourselves in a place we do not want to be in again.
Get a life.
The majority of people in the BVI knows that Fahie is telling the truth. Myron the divider is at it again.
It’s interesting that I don’t hear Myron saying anything at all about this issue but Fahie and all the others are the ones who keep bringing it up. Check on the other site and you will see it as well. That tells me that they are trying to undo something that they created by now trying to blame the innocent party for what they have caused. I remember Fahie’s debate in the HOA on the human rights commission he turned it into an argument about expats vs locals over rights in the constitution. I remember them bringing up this born here issue every time Myron runs. I remember seeing the VIP email threatening to go as far as privy council to stop Myron. I relieved Claude frothing at the mouth about the born here issue. I remember hearing the talk show host spewing their hate about Myron on the radio around the both here issue. I remember all that!
Honorable Fahie you must stop spreading these twisted truths…a couple years ago i listened to you with my very own ears saying that you will take back the jobs and give it to the locals while you were campaigning so stop blaming NDP on this. All of you politicians fueled this Expat-local hatred at one time or the other (especially during election time) to secure political gains!!! All of you are to be blame period!!!
IT IS THE OTHER WAY AROUND “EXPATS AGAINST LOCALS”
You need to be specific because we have different categories of “expats” such as Syrians, “island man”, Chinese, “down island people”, and of course the white man — to name but a few. In any event the opposition leader does not need to stir up divisions, while pretending to be a peacemaker. Instead try and focus on the real issues like rebuilding and making our economy better.
F—- which expat flew your family out on his private jet after the hurricane? It’s okay to use us Expat at your convenience but blame us for dividing the locals i—- behavior.
Where did you read that Fahie is against expat? Where does this come in as non-factually stated as it is? You just intend to try to make lies truth out of hatred. What Fahie is saying is that the division being pushed between the groups for votes is not necessary because it will divide us and he is 100% correct.
There goes the twist just like Trump. Fahie is a master of it. He is always using smoke screens to play the victim. I recall watching a video on FB with a guy attacking Myron wearing Fahie’s T-shirt. Months later he roll out asking people not to do the same but he never condemned the person. Classical Andrew
Yet another LIE
“I am in for me because them before did the same thing.”
Can any really concerned citizen for the welfare and growth of a country and its people see hope in a party in which those words came out of the mouth of one of its members?
Andrew quit while you are ahead. Focus on how you’ll put the BVI back on its feet again. This is one of the most important election in our history i.e. we have a country to build back, our main industry is under threat, etc. Please let’s focus on how you’ll fix these issues.
I don’t see any problems with what Fahie is saying because it is happening and it needs to stop NOW!
S—– didn’t get through because member of the VIP Congress say (remember nothing here in this little country is confidential)The Chairman say give anybody else except S——, W—— and S——–. The school children say S——– not from here, W—— is still loyal to Frazer and what S——— did to NDP he will do it to VIP. School children know ebrey thing
It is clear that your post is based on lies. What is now clearer since the VIP internal elections is that some people couldn’t see themselves losing and intend to try to destroy the VIP with these and other lies out of revenge but it will not work.
That always been M’s strategy. Not just now. He needs those votes badly. They will give the votes and then realize the nightmare.
When will you silly people realize that trying to demonize Hon Walwayn will NOT work. Walwyn is always through the people election or no election. Local or expat he has helped. He remains the most effective and accessible elected minister. Ronnie, Andrew and Frazer have their hands full with him this election. THE PEOPLE SEH SUH!
You darn snippy about that. Andrew and. Fraser have more than their hands full. They are both running scared. Andrew, do you really think this is going to make a difference with the people who is standing with Myron? The more you guys go after Myron, the stronger his followers is going to become. I can’t speak for everyone, but I am speaking for myself, you can sling all the mud you want against Myron, I am not going to give up on him. I don’t understand why you people is not reading and comprehending the memo. Myron is going to be the next leader of the COUNTRY plain and simple.
I wonder if it was Myron who said that Island people never see a hundred dollar bill until they come here! Was it Myron who said that? The maker of that statement is now supporting PVIM since Myron became the leader of the NDP. Think about that.
Hon. Fahie should be ashamed of himself for uttering such nonsense. I don’t have anything else to say on this.
The truth really hurts doesn’t it. Fahie is on point.
On which point? If this is how Fahie plans to run his campaign he might as well pack up shop from now. All of the born here or expat talk started in 2011 when Myron first ran with the NDP, it continued in 2015 elections again and it reared its ugly head during NDP’s internal election. Now that these guys realize how many voters have expat ties, everyone is trying to run away from it but the expat voters and connected persons will not be fooled. There was an email and whatsapp chat that was circulating with VIP members involved speaking to whether Myron should be allowed to contest elections even though he is a sitting Minister. It is sick, disgusting, disrespectful and out of place.
You set of hypocrites coming on here blogging trying to make it seem as if Fahie is making up stuff when everyone in the BVI knows bald head is doing this behind the scenes while talking otherwise publicly.
Please stop referring to everyone, you cannot speak for me. What you are saying is fake news to me.
That’s what I like about Fahie, he is not afraid to tackle the issues that everyone else avoids while knowing that it needs to be tackled inorder to help the VI to heal and be as one people.
I am originally from Sk but a belonger in the BVI for 40 years now. I am one they came to my house telling me that we the Caribbean people must stick together to help a tall one win Premier who is from the Caribbean. I told them to stop that because it will divide the BVI. So Hon. Fahie knows what he is saying because behind the scenes it is strategy being used for votes and that’s a FACT!
Stop telling lies. The good thing about elections is that unlike blogs, it’s one man, one vote. Posters coming on here saying the same nonsense over and over using different names think they’re fooling people but they are not. The fact is Fahie and the VIP are very weak. He will win his seat, Cline may win the 2nd, Kye has a good chance in the 5th and Wheatley might have a chance in the 9th, that’s it so he needs to tone it down.
OH PLEASE YOUR A** WILL SOON SEE WHO IS TELLING THE D**N TRUTH Keep Talking.
Under Fahie and VIP visas was put in place for Jamaicans following a public outcry of then increase in murders and violent crimes they were convicted of.
He needs to tell the truth about why certain countries have visas. If it needs to be reviewed let us agree on that. but we know why they are there
The NDP created the policy to grant residency and belonger status to persons who lived and contributed to the BVI for 20 or more years, and thus created an expectation that if you were law abiding you can get residency. Under VIP residency was used as a political tool and given to persons after 5 to 7 years in a subjective manner. Under VIP, law abiding persons with children and grand children were living here for 30, 40 years and could not get anything. it was strictly depending on who you know you got status.
It will not benefit BVI to continue to exclude the significant majority of residents from the voting process. How can it be right, to have a small minority rule over the majority (like South Africa)? Ex-pats are not allowed to have any voice and we’re told “if you dont like it, boats leaving every day”. One day, us Ex-Pats may unite and revolt against this discrimination against us and our “born here” children. Time to have some grown up conversations about immigration by politicians and the people. Its not us and them, its I and I.
Estimate 30,000 residents. Only 40% are Belongers, so that makes 12,000. Figure 1/3 of those are below voting age, that leaves 8,000. Assume 2/3 are registered to vote, now you have about 5,300 voters. But, if voter turn out is 50%, then you’re down to about 2,600 (i.e. less than 10% of the estimated population) deciding the fate of the Territory. Is that a democracy? Is a system like this likely to work out well for the greater good of the Territory. You decide, but the bottom line is that precious few here can vote.
There are 13000+ Registered Voters and the voter turn out is about 68%
It is what happens when immigration goes unchecked, to the point where native citizens are rendered a minority. Not a good place to be.
Andrew this can’t be true. Why are u stooping sòoòo low.Gosh man I had u on a pedestal but this…. no way I’m not in this gutter politics with U.This is one family off ur list.Very low Andrew we need ideas to move this place forward not this bull!#@×==//
The person responsible for allowing the raising of the residency requirement is the out going primier. Prior to that, the VIP was no better, as many people’s applications was delayed by years under them. Orlando allowed the situation to get worst by making people who would have been then qualified to become illegally unqualified MVW might be the best hope to set things more fair.
There is nothing legal or illegal. There is no law guiding the process, only policies.
The challenge for the outgoing Premier right now is because of the vitriol the Governor has stalled the process as there are well over 200 hundred applications pending for some time now. The policy was to approve a certain number annually.
The Premier needs to say that. But we know communication is an issue with this Government. You only hear thing in secret.
Please don’t loose sight as to why everyone is running for political leverage which is to lead. Let us all SEE where the REAL Problem is –
THE VIOLENCE – THE VIOLECE – SAVE THE BVI FROM THE VIOLENCE IN YOUR BACKYARD – SPEND THE TIME CLEANING UP THE REAL DREGGS LEANING AND HANGING ON BRINGING DONW ONE BEAUTIFUL PARADISE TO WHICH GOD HAS PUT US ALL IN THE ENJOY THE BEST OF WHAT IT HAS TO OFFER US ALL. VOLUNTEER – VOLUNTEER – VOLUNTEER. COME OUT AND GIVEN BACK TO THE GROWTH AND SAVE THE BVI.
BRING BACK HOPE. GIVE BACK TO WHAT HAS GIVEN TO YOU THE BVI STRONG – STORNGER. WORK HARD TO MAKE IT WORK FOR ALL.
I AM A BELONGER FOR EVER – I WEAR IT AS A BADGE OF HONOR FROM MY LONG LONG LONG LONG LASTING ANCESTORS.
I WANT THE BVI TO COME BACK STRONG – STRONGER AND GREATER. I GREW UP IN TORTOLA AND WHEN I GO BACK – I KICK OFF MY SHOES AND RUN DOWN THE ROAD LIKE I DID AS A CHILD. I WANT TO COME HOME AND EXPERIENCE
THAT FEELING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. AS A CHILD I FELT THE BVI – BUT REALIZING THAT THE BVI NEVER – NEVER – NEVER LEFT ME. I SLEEP THE BVI – I WAKE THE BVI IT IS A PLACE ALWAYS IN MY THOUGHTS OF A PLACE GREAT TO ME. LET US WORK ON SAVING IT – SAVING IT’S FUTURE – AND LET US WORK ON TEACHING THE HISTORY OF THE BVI TO WHICH IS RICH AND HUMBLE – HUMBLE FOR THOSE WHO LOVE – LOVE THE BVI –
KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE – KEEP YOUR EYE ON YOUR BACK YARD – WATCH – WATCH – WATCH-
Who have ears to hear, hear this. Just like the war on drugs with supply and demand, there’s IS a parasitic/ symbiotic relationship between expatriates and locals. It is real and we all have to and must deal with it. Take a hard look around and look within yourselves.
Them politicians going in the ring which expect the people not to see tha them in for a treat. The place divided by greed and nationality. The equilibrium likely a coalition government. NDP has the edge.
I do not know who have an edge or a hegde. God will decide.
I told you it would come back to haunt you! You had no right trying to stifle MVW upward mobility in the HOA talking about he cannot be Premier of this country. Now you want all the expats to vote for the VIP? How can you expect them to vote for you when you are trying to condemn him, a British VIrgin Islander with expat parents? You want to have your cake and eat it too? Croppo smoke your pipe this time! MVW and the NDP ALL THE WAY in 2019!
To all of us who were born in the BVI but our parents were not, it is time for us to unite and do this. Andrew is trying to mess with people’s head.To late Andrew, our parents are not from your soil, but the children who were born on your soil is far from stupid.
Andrew, that was so unnessary. It looks mighty strange you would bring this up now. Now look what you just started. I am not a supporter but it would have been better if you tell the people of the BVI what exactly are your plans for turning the Country in the right direction.
Remember you have a member of the VIP living in the 5th district mashing up a married couple from the Island…. be careful what you saying…
And Myron have people on his slate who and theirs are homereckers so what’s the difference. I taught Ndp was about family.
Andrew’s reasoning ability is queastionable and he comes across illogical on this one. Its a typical ploy to fool people, politicians must be truthful and demonstrate integrity.
He fully well knows that the VISA restrictions for some Caribbean countries like the Jamaicans was put in place to try and stop a potential criminal problem. It may have been a knee jerk reaction but it had a rationale.
He also knows that the vast majority of Caribbean countries can come here without a Visa.
He also knows that just like the Chinese the Visa exemption applies to any citizen from visa restricted country whether its Jamaica, Guyana etc. that wants to come as a visitor (not for work) and has a US, Canadian or UK visa.
The stuff he is saying is just not true! Tell the truth Hon. Fahie and stop LYING for political milage.
You obviously just hate Fahie because everyone on the street knows that Fahie is speaking the truth. Myron is TRYING TO divide us as a people and that’s a FACT!
Wah he know bout telling de truth.. Ask Fraser and Dancia they will tell you bout him. My parents ain’t from here and we they three children born right here and all five us voting straight NDP ALL DE WAY!! CHI CHING!
Old Willie Lynch is probably pissing he self with laugh.
You people are really showing how shallow, ignorant and narrow minded you are. To vote for someone because of where they from. No consideration of ability, morality, Godliness, honesty, vision. Some of us are praying for your stupidity.
Please, Please show us which one has.. We waiting!!
This is a revelation that does not speak well of whoever encourages stepping up or increasing the number years for exemption or reaching belonger status. Many of people clamoring for this get citizenship of other countries with ease. How many years did it take you to get this? Why racism?
Initially ,it was 5 years, later years and continues to go up by some peoples making
This or attitude for any reason political or financial gain is callous and does not show love as you claim. We pray that God will enthrone the right individuals that will do His (God) will.Long live BVI.
