New BVI Now app launched | Promises to put BVI above the competition

Executive Liaison Officer for the new BVI Now app, David Penn.

A new mobile application that allows visitors and residents to find places to stay, dine, shop or relax has been launched in the British Virgin Islands.

The app, which is called BVI Now, allows users to access the information without the need of an internet connection.

Executive Liaison for BVI Now team David Penn said during a press conference on Wednesday that the territory is expected to outshine its competitors with this new app.

“We believe that this is the very first of its kind in the world. This is a tool that is going to distance us from our competition in the tourist realm not just regionally, but globally,” Penn said.

He continued: “We believe that it is going to be transformational for the territory. Primarily, the first phase is going to focus on the tourist experience here. But there is a very significant component that is going to be specially designed for use for people that live and work here.”

BVITB excited

In the meantime, the BVI Tourist Board has said it is happy about the new technology.

“We see it as a very innovative tool, and we are excited about that,” Public Relations Officer of the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) Keith Dawson stated. “It is being described by some as the Yellow Pages on steroids and the BVITB is supporting it.”

More about the app

Marketing strategist and the developer of the app, Chuck Krallman from the company Nanosurvey Ltd stated that the reason behind the app’s implementation is to rid the territory of the challenges that tourists find when they visit

He said the paper-based maps and even google maps are not accurate and sometimes results in cruise visitors returning to their cruise ships before it departs.

The project commenced last September and all businesses will receive a free listing. However, if business owners require greater prominence on the app, a fee would apply.

The app was created in the BVI and is available for free download on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

Wi-Fi spots will be placed in strategic locations in the BVI as well as at the ferry terminals in St Thomas, so persons can download the app.
