Nightclub worker charged for attacking taxi driver

BVI News understands that a nightclub worker was recently arrested and charged after allegedly attacking and injuring a taxi driver.

The suspect is reportedly a national of a Spanish-speaking country. On the night of the incident, it is alleged that the woman and a female colleague called a taxi to take them home after their shift at a nightclub in Purcell Estate.

During the ride, the two women reportedly got into a heated verbal altercation, during which the main suspect allegedly struck her colleague multiple times.

In an effort to de-escalate the situation, the taxi driver reportedly stopped the vehicle and attempted to restrain the suspect. However, she allegedly turned on him, hitting him several times. It is unclear whether a weapon was used, but sources told BVI News that the driver required medical attention following the attack.

While it remains unclear whether the second woman sustained any injuries, sources say it was the taxi driver who reported the matter to the police.

The suspect was later located and charged with assaulting the taxi driver. It is not yet confirmed whether she was also charged in connection with the alleged assault on her colleague. However, BVI News understands she has since been released on bail.

The incident comes amid growing concerns about nightclub-related violence in the community, including reports of patrons and staff being assaulted, in some cases at gunpoint.
