Nine new auxiliary officers joins RVIPF

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) welcomed nine new auxiliary officers to its ranks on Wednesday, July 24, following their training to become law enforcement officers.

A small ceremony was held at the Road Town Police Station for this latest cohort, which comprises seven women and two men.

Three women among the cohort received awards for outstanding performance, with Ashanake Williams being the most decorated officer. She was awarded Best at Evidence, Best at Leadership, Best at Auxiliary Duty Subjects, and the Best Auxiliary award, sponsored by Deputy Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool.

Her role models within the force were the women in leadership positions, namely, DCP Vanterpool, the first female superintendent in the force, and other officers who aided in the completion of her cohort’s training.

Williams, a trained social worker, always envisioned herself in a career where she could help others.

“Serving is something that is almost second nature. I’ve also always been passionate about law enforcement, so the police force was a good avenue for me to get into,” she stated.

Her goal is to eventually transition into a police constable.

Williams said her attraction to the force also stemmed from her own personal experiences with the RVIPF. She explained that although the community does not always see the force in a positive light, she is determined to correct this perspective throughout her career as an officer, aiming for the community to eventually see the force in the same positive manner that encouraged her to join.

The other awardees were Zenique Pope, who attained Best Foot Drills and Best at Physical Fitness, and Wennicia Williams, who was awarded Most Disciplined Officer.

Acting Governor David Archer Jr and Commissioner of Police Mark Collins gave congratulatory statements to the officers and expressed gratitude to their families for their support.

There are too many women cops in the force, they are basically useless in a real fight and most have a bad attitude

It is true, the senior officers in the force is abusing their authority by allowing the females to work where they prefer to get under their dress, no one is addressing this situation, a supt just embarrassed himself with one of the young female,as his other half finds out.

They dont need to be fighting with all the technology available. What they need to get together & write a letter for cannabis to be legal so that they can integrate into their own society and get to solving what we grew up understanding to be real crimes such as theft & violence.

We breed our own corruption by expecting that not one cop enjoys a joint after hours instead of beer, and the belief that they don’t know tons of people personally who do.

We have too many distractions meanwhile car theft, illegal guns, burglary & illegal immigrants are on the rise.

    @hmm

Its about the money. A truly honest local person can not join because to go from preschool to adulthood your going to encounter many who use weed and what are they going to do lock up their child hood buddies? So the police are forced into corruption.

It takes a VERY bad or VERY ignorant person to betray their own for a job. Someone will say it comes with the job but a good person will stay out, knowing it will be in conflict with their experience in society if they’d have to lock rasta grandpa up. The person who does it for money is the kind of person who’d stand guard at a concentration camp as a job, not community police material.

I still dont see the last batch of new officers anywhere…. like yall hired and place the resources else where instead of where its needed to be.

more police officers that works directly on the front lines please. first responders please. officers than patrol the actual roads and districts

dont take this set here and make them disappear.. are these officer being promised position or certain departments when they go in? bcuz they disappears as they graduate no where on the front lines.

  8. Faithful says:

“Auxillary Officers are trained to observe and report conditions requiring the service of regular police officers”; which basically means they are not regular, full fledged police officers at this time, but they can become one with further training. In the past, they were hired mainly as crossing guards.

In the future, if the person is wearing glasses with transition lens, please ask them to remove them to take the picture. This way we can identify the officer, even if if there are wearing plain clothes. Thanks!
