One arrested following police response to public disorder

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) arrested a male suspect on Friday, August 23, during an operation aimed at addressing recent reports of public disorder.

According to an RVIPF press release, the operation involved intelligence-led stop-and-checks, targeted patrols, and search operations in various hotspots throughout the territory. This effort led to the recovery of controlled drugs, drug dealing paraphernalia, and the confiscation of an illegal weapon.

The RVIPF has not disclosed details of the arrest or the suspect’s identity. However, Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool noted that one of the operation’s objectives was to reassure the public, particularly in communities directly affected by recent public disorder.

“The police are committed to investigating and apprehending criminal offenders who continue to flout the laws and create mayhem in the community,” stated the Acting Commissioner.

This operation follows confirmed reports of gunfire in Purcell Estate in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 20, and a separate incident of shots fired at a home in the Free Bottom area shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21.

Both incidents followed a similar pattern, with no individuals found at the scene, but spent shell casings confirming that shots were fired.

The public is encouraged to provide the police with any information that may assist in solving these or other criminal activities.

The time is fast approaching when we as a country will have to rise up and take a stand against all forms of lawless behavior. People have more power than they use! The politicians can’t do it alone this friend helping friend thing has gone on too long. The police can’t do it alone. Correction must touch corruption and outsiders and ex officers should not have influence within the ranks of the force. We need to begin to use what we have to get what we want and make a better BVI !
