Opposition Leader: ‘Deliberate agenda to destabilise BVI’

Skelton

Opposition Leader Ronnie Skelton has suggested that efforts are being made to destabilise the BVI.

He pointed to the dire state of the BVI’s court system and urged leaders to take corrective measures.

Skelton, while speaking in the House of Assembly this week, condemned the huge backlog of cases before the courts and decried the poor state of human rights within the BVI’s justice system.

“Any one of us tomorrow, based on the COI report, could get arrested and they’ll put us in Balsam Ghut and we’ll be up there for six, seven months, years, on remand. That is not right,” Skelton argued.

Skelton said it was suggested that an additional criminal court be put in place to deal with the backlog in the interim to properly address the urgent situation.

He added: “We need to have this thing corrected and if we need to beef up our court system because the work is plenty, then we should do that. We cannot be taking away the people’s rights because we assume that they have done something wrong.”

Skelton acknowledged that the courts did not fall under the government, however, he urged Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley to address the issue soon in the House of Assembly.

“Premier, get on top of this. I know it’s a Governor’s function, I know that. But you know, you need to get in this House and tell us,” Skelton said. “Tell us what the problems are so we can make noise and have our country corrected, because it seems to me that there is a deliberate effort, or a deliberate agenda to destabilise a whole country.”

The V I delibearately and knowingly overburdened the Courts c with an I m ported population guaranteed to create excessive repeated and ongoing crime and criminal activities simply to foster convenience to themselves cohorts and friends’ and family criminal activities, The UK did not dictate nor did it instruct the amount and nor the character and origin of the overwhelming excess of human imports from places of Caribbean murder capitals drugs human trafficking and all other crimes,
Past and present the elected did this inscrutable self serving dastardly wrong to the VI and its people.
No mercy did they have and a heavy price will be paid.

RS – you do know we have a very inept and incompetent DPP don’t you! By the time cases reach the courts, witnesses are no longer available, reliable and credible. Thus the defendants walk free and have the possibility of filing a lawsuit against wrongful imprisonment for such extended periods.

We need to get new blood in the DPP office and put out to pasture the current failures in that office!

Get on with reshuffling that DPP office ASAP!

Sodviguc c elected members are the culprits who ho deliberately made efforts to destabilize the Government…enabling the serving of their selfish and illegal activities an easier possibility of not being detected as everything in turmoil with the destabilization of the courts due to excessive crimes by the excessive granting of status to persons of unknown and shady character, guaranteeing chaos in an overburdened Court system,

I find Ronnie moving weak and scared. He is best to lead the BVI out of these long hard and rocky journey with no way out..

  10. Legal education and experience says:

or lack of it is the main problem in the BVI judicial system. Hiring UWI graduates fresh from law school for employment in the DPP, High Court Registry, AG’s Chambers, etc. is self-defeating because these young folks have no court room experience. Meanwhile lawyers in private practice work 10+ years as legal assistants in the courtroom until they have gained enough experience to outwit these ‘junior’ government lawyers in court.
