Penn hosts Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in constituency

Eight District Representative, Marlon Penn stands near the community Christmas tree in his district during a lighting ceremony at the weekend.

In an effort to foster community spirit and spread holiday cheer, Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn hosted the district’s first-ever Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 14, in Greenland.

The festive event, held under the theme “Jingle and Mingle,” brought residents together to sing Christmas carols and celebrate the season. Representative Penn revealed that the tree lighting took place across three key locations in the district—East End, Greenland, and Hope Hill.

“This is our first time doing a tree lighting in the district,” Penn shared during the event. “We’ve organised a series of activities to bring back that Christmas cheer to the community.”

Looking ahead, Penn highlighted plans to continue enhancing the festive spirit with additional events.

“On Christmas Eve, we have a band that will travel through the community to spread music and joy. We also have special gifts prepared for the seniors in our community,” he announced.

Penn encouraged residents to participate in the holiday activities and emphasised the importance of rebuilding connections within the district.

“It’s not always about giving gifts. It’s also about sharing and fostering camaraderie among us. We’ve lost that sense of community, and we need to get back to it,” he said, adding his signature phrase: “Living as one people in a community.”

The intimate event featured children playing joyfully, a lively band filling the air with festive tunes, and refreshments and snacks for all attendees.

In keeping with the theme “Jingle and Mingle,” participants were encouraged to interact, engage with one another, and invite someone new to next year’s event. The organisers also stressed that the tree lighting was not limited to district residents but was open to anyone looking to experience the joy of community during the Christmas season.

You are a d@*n fool! Yes, some people needs to learn how to eat healthier foods and exercise at least 3 or 4 times per week. However, no one should resort to fat shaming anybody. Its not your right and its best we learn to mind our business. We don’t know what that person is going through, thereby they decided to find comfort in unhealthy food or overeating. Its so easy to tear down eachother but what about you. You who think they have it altogether giving you the right to confront people about their weight. You may respond to me saying perhaps i am a person who probably need to be fat shamed. Pethaps but that doesn’t give you the right. Plus, i am very self assured about myself that nothing you say will make me cuss you out or slap the hell outta you. Though, i stand to lose another 15lbs or 20lbs, thats my choice. I have lost over 40lbs over the last few months, unfortunately due to illness i have had to stopped my vigorous daily walking but in everything i give God thanks. So let me ask you something, after you are done fat shaming will you then move on to shaming others who wear wigs, bleach or wear clothing ypu deem unfit for their shape? Please be mindful of what you say to others and how you treat them. Would you like the same be meted out to you every day? Its time we all learn to mind our business, pray for each other and seek the Lord whilst he is near. I hope you are able to find love because clearly your heart is lacking it.

  5. To the critics says:

Hon Penn is in the opposition . He does not handle dish out nor allocate the funds from the Government treasury.

Nor does he give directives which projects should or should not be done . That is the directive from the Premier and his Cabinet

From what i understand at the Vote of thanks it is private community minded people of the district and Insurance and Ronnie and Mather who help to sponser the event . Not taxpayers money . Get your facts right .

When the stimulus package going to prople with money who never plant a seed ayo mum .. Come off a Marlon Back
When Andrew was taking thousands for his cronies tomparents whose children never put foot in a college door ayo wad mum

Marlon needs a breeder from badminded people
He is a humble guy who looks out for his community not only those who vote for him but

Thanks you when i looks at the trees they are up to standards. Kudos to his team working for him

    All volunteers.

Dancia did two big projects that she did not get credit for . The refurbishment of the Francis Lettsome school and the fisherman wharf by Tony’s gas station and that is fact. The then-premier undermined some of his ministers, strengthening the opposing Party to win back the Government.

And it shows because since the current representative has gotten a ministry and the Government and the representative have not done anything else for the district. Dancia asked the then Premier for funds to fix the Greenland field and this was not done.

U all here in the BVI living in a fantasy world and don’t want to understand or see the real politricks that’s happening before your very eyes. But rather sit back and call some people lazy or foolish.

The district rep is a waste of time whether he is in government or sitting with the opposition. East End is an eye sore. Potholes, garbage, etc. It’s just horrible. Hon. Penn can do better. Time to get a representative that is forward thinking and effective. Hon. Penn needs to spend sometime walking through his district so that he can get in touch with reality. The area where he held the party is also a dump. The persons that showed up are just as bad as Marlon.

  9. Wow..What a load of negativity. says:

Not even the spirit of Christmas tempers the negativity among some.

The Eighth District Representative hosted the district’s first-ever Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and he gets attacked here for increments, not doing anything in his district, and his waistline.

He is not the only District Representative to have hosted a similar events in their District.

Some of you folks are just impossible. Always bringing the negativity. Darn if you do, and darn if you don’t.

No one can win with some of you folks. There is a time and place for everything, and IMO, this is not it.

The residents of the 8th who turned out for the event were clearly there to enjoy themselves. Why bring politics or personal attacks to the table in this moment and going as low as talking about the man’s waistline?

For Christ sakes, it’s the Christmas Holidays. Why can’t some of you folks be decent and kind to others at least for the moment?

There is an adage: If you don’t have anything good to say, say nothing.

Some of you folks need to practice that adage and incorporate it into your minds as a gift to yourselves for the holidays and beyond.

By the way let me wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy, healthy, New Years’ in advance.

Life is short. Live your best lives while you are still breathing regardless of any increments or your waistlines.

Just be kind to others even if you disagree with them or their politics. It takes nothing from you to do so. Show yourselves to be a bigger person and better than that.
