Penn upset over EE clinic closure

Penn

The closure of the East End Long Look clinic for nearly three weeks has sparked outrage from Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn, who has voiced deep concern and disappointment over the situation.

Penn stated that the clinic’s closure was due to a power disconnection caused by non-payment to the BVI Electricity Corporation. This has caused significant hardships for many residents, especially seniors.

In a recent interview on ZBVI, Penn criticised government officials for the plight of the clinic’s regular users, who are now forced to travel to Road Town for medical services.

“It’s unfortunate that the people who use those facilities, mainly seniors, young people, and indigent persons, now have to traverse to Road Town to get services,” Penn said.

He further expressed disappointment with the lack of action from relevant authorities.” The fact that the Premier, who’s the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Works, who’s in charge of the Electricity corporation… This could not have happened if the Minister of Works, who is Kye Rymer, didn’t sanction the Electricity Corporation to cut and put those persons in the state of having to have to go to Road Town to get any services,” Penn argued.

Penn’s concerns stem from the closure of multiple community clinics due to similar issues. While the Rosalind Penn Health Centre in East End/Long Look has since reopened, the ongoing closure of other clinics underscores the challenges residents face in accessing healthcare services.

Penn also emphasised the importance of the East End Long Look clinic, stating, “East End Long Look is the biggest community in this entire territory. If something is to happen at any moment in our community that should be the first call for any person to seek refuge, but they have to now go to the hospital to seek refuge, and that is really unfortunate.”

Penn expressed solidarity with residents, stating his willingness to stand with them in any decision they make to ensure the issue is resolved immediately.

It’s called a govt that can’t handle its own affairs. Neil was the FS when this was going on, he didn’t pay then and all of a sudden now he’s the head of Electricty it need to get cut?

The Premier is soft and has zero respect in his own Government they cut his community and leave others open and get allow that to go on for 3 weeks. The entire thing will soon implode.

  5. clinic is important says:

I do not care who in and who out, who from East and who from west. A clinic is a major part of every community whether we like it or not, or see the importance or not. Imagine being on your way to Beef Island and feel a sudden illness of any kind and you right there by the gas station going. That snap minute a nurse could save a life. The time it take to turn around and go to town, the last breath could have drawn. So not even for the residents of the east area but anybody can need emergency care at any time. Let us get the problem resolved. We should not be in this

You will be upset until thy kingdom come unless you get real managers who know how to manage, recruit and retain. What we have now are a set of double dipping, profiteering gangsters, stealing and giving away the tax payers services and dependent only on the few dollars the tax payers give them to run the hospital and clinics. My God, they barley let the public know what services are afforded them at these facilities for fear it would interrupt the scheming and scamming they have going on.

NO MINISTER can fix this situation.
