Excitement in the stands at Clinton E Phipps Race Track was not outdone by that on the track yesterday (April 27) as horses from the Tortola in the British Virgin Islands matched speed with others from the neighbouring US Virgin Islands (USVI).

Tortola-based horses competed in four races, but only one win was secured.

The winner, American Creed, which is trained by Lesmore Smith, beat a field of five over six furlongs. With jockey Winston Hurst Jr aboard, American Creed completed the distance in a time of 111.3 seconds. Another horse from Tortola – Daboluck – finished second in the race that carried a purse of $8,500.

Meanwhile, in the feature race of the day, Totally Evil from the US Virgin Islands continued its winning streak and – this time round – claimed the Governor’s Cup in a time of 142.2 seconds. Giant Valley out of Tortola finished second. The race had a purse of $20,000.
