PHOTOS: Machel Montano electrifies crowd at festival
As part of the Virgin Islands’ 70th Emancipation festivities, Trinidadian soca artist Machel Montano graced the stage inside Rena’s Festiville on Tuesday night, July 30, delivering crowd-pleasing performances with tunes spanning his illustrious musical career.
As the time for Machel’s performance approached, the crowd grew in anticipation. Local band VIBE also energised the audience with their dynamic tunes, ensuring the night was filled with vibrant energy.
The event was intended to be illuminated with glow sticks. Although the glow sticks were few in number, the energy and patronage were abundant.
A recurring artist in the BVI, Machel’s performances are always warmly welcomed. Despite not being the closing act, the crowd rapidly dissipated after his performance.
Other performances included Hardcore Band, OMG Live, Xtreme featuring Pascal, and the event was hosted by DJ Dre.
The next event in the 70th Emancipation festival lineup is Wild Out Wednesday, featuring a special performance by Rajah Wild, a relatively new Jamaican dancehall artist. Other acts include Evo HD, Killa Toomq, Banco Bizmol, Shaw HP and Sisa, and Triple Kay International, a Dominican band. The event will be hosted by Carly Cartel.
This year marks 70 years of celebrating culture and the 190th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Virgin Islands. The festival continues until August 10 under the theme: “Celebrate Our Freedom and Live in Unity as BVI Festival Turns 70!”
