PHOTOS: Night 2 of BVI Music Fest attracts crowd
This year’s controversially held BVI Music Festival — sponsored by the Virgin Islands government, BVI Tourist Board, Roadtown Wholesale and Digicel — saw varying turnouts on its first two nights.
On Friday, May 24, the opening night, the turnout was noticeably small and scattered. Despite an upbeat atmosphere, the event appeared to lack the patron numbers necessary to drive energy.
BVI News interviewed various attendees, many of whom believed the lineup of performers could have been the reason for Friday’s low turnout. Friday night’s lineup featured artistes such as Nigerian-American actor and singer Rotimi, as well as international soca artiste from Trinidad & Tobago, Voice. Other acts included Razor Blades and the VIBE band.
Despite the smaller audience, excitement was abundant. Voice proved to be a crowd favourite, performing singles like “Year for Love” and “Far from Finished.” At the end of his performance, patrons chanted for an encore.
Rotimi also delivered a captivating performance. He engaged the audience affectionately and highlighted the island’s warmth and beauty, and gifted a few flowers to attendees.
In contrast, Saturday night’s event had a noticeably larger turnout. Dancehall artiste Alkaline kept the audience rocking with tunes such as “Move Mountains,” “How It Feel,” and “Fleek.” Other acts for the evening included Banco Bizmol and Monea from the Virgin Islands.
The Music Fest wraps up on Sunday with a star-studded lineup, including Jamaican reggae singer Gramps Morgan, local calypsonian Sistah Joyce, Harella, Freddie Jackson, VI Groove Project, and It’s a Secret Band.

The event was corked no one studying the crazy lady with her rant we will always support this government
the premier look higher than a kite
Like the music. Who’s liking the money give away? Its in our interests to know who cashednin.
So far the event has been a total failure! Less than 50 tourists and all from St Thomas and St Croix. This isn’t supposed to be a party for locals to come out to. It is not about how much people go to the event but how many hotels were full or car rentals booked or restaurants packed! $700k wasted for what? Blind leading the blind!
It’s the Virgin Islands Music Fest, not the BVI Music Fest. The name was changed for a reason.
World History 1
BVI and Virgin Islands: are interchangeable names used for one and the
same country..Virgin Islands is its official and legal name as shown on its passport.
Hence your statement ,,”Its the Virgin Islands Music Fest not the BVI Music Fest is demonstrates your lack of knowledge and perhaps comprehension of facts. Laughable but sad, given the embarrassment of you “correcting” with idiocy.
I saw Wheatley, and it’s the face of a kid just trying to be recognized among the adults of this island like children protesting for their space, that’s what that jamming party thing about, rebellious youth, it will be near his exit time from office realizing people won’t vote for him he will take the premiership serious.
The event for a first time out was a success oh yea it can only get bigger and better let Cindy the enemy of the bvi and the people go take a few seats
when you add the amount of photos to 50 people who were there it sure looks like like a large crowd to those who either on something or cannot see straight OR those who were paid to say otherwise – aka – reading from the script
For the 100 people there that cost us all $6500 for each. Is this country run by crazy fools?
