Police officer suspended over firearm-related domestic probe
A police officer has been interdicted from duty following a firearm-related domestic incident that is now under investigation by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
The RVIPF announced on Thursday that it was investigating a report of the incident, received on Tuesday, May 26.
“As part of ongoing investigations, a Police Constable was arrested for questioning and has since been interdicted from duty pending the outcome of the investigation,” the RVIPF stated.
Police said the officer has not been charged and, as a result, his identity is being withheld.
The force did not disclose further details about the reported incident, including the circumstances surrounding the firearm-related report or whether any injuries were sustained.
“The RVIPF continues investigations into the matter. Further updates will be provided as necessary,” the RVIPF stated.
Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool said the organisation remains committed to investigating allegations involving members of the force and other public officers.
“Acting Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool wishes to assure the public of the RVIPF’s commitment to the investigation and prosecution of any malfeasance committed by its members or any other member of the public service,” the release stated.
The latest development comes as the RVIPF continues to confront concerns over domestic violence and illegal firearms in the territory. In its 2025 Year in Review, the police force reported a rise in domestic violence incidents and highlighted the continuing challenge posed by illegal firearms. Acting Deputy Commissioner Kenrick Davis said crime levels stabilised during 2025 despite those concerns.
The RVIPF said further information will be released as necessary.
