Police release identity of missing boaters
The following is a media release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is now able to release the identity of the two men reported missing at sea following boat mishap.
The lone survivor identified Julien Roy Gabriel and Lucien Bryan, both residents of St Maarten, as the two men that were onboard of the 16.5’ Wahoo with one 70hp Yamaha outboard engine.
The survivor said that on Tuesday, last week, the three boarded the vessel from Baie De Grand Case on the French side of St Maarten and headed toward Baie Du Marigot.
He said that along the journey, a wave struck the vessel causing it to overturn and all safety equipment was lost.
He stated that all three persons drifted for four days until Saturday when local boaters spotted the overturned vessel. The lone survivor stated that within 24 hours of being rescued both Gabriel and Bryan released their hold on the boat and disappear below the water. Officers of the Police Marine Branch continue their search for the missing boaters.

Trying to understand what ‘The lone survivor stated that within 24 hours of being rescued both Gabriel and Bryan released their hold on the boat and disappear below the water’ means. You say “all three persons drifted for four days until Saturday when local boaters spotted the overturned vessel.” if they were rescued then what happened? the rescuers had them hang on to the outside of the boat?
Doesn’t make much sense to me.
Not clear at all.
I believe the author meant to say ” within 14 hours of capsizing” !! Geez, so disgusted with these millennials/ so called journalists. Their articles read like garbage.
You’re right but this article looks like it come straight from the police
I agree with proofreader. Whoever wrote the statement did not plainly convey the meaning of what we read. The victims let go before the rescue arrived. Also it could also be as a result of the survivor’s English skills. It could be that English is not his first language. Very often a person speaks English using formal interpretations of words.
