Port Purcell cargo facility allowed to open Friday and Saturday

The Port Purcell cargo facility on Tortola has been added to the list of businesses now permitted to operate during government’s limited and managed curfew hours.

The cargo facility is sanctioned to operate from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4.

A media release from the BVI Ports Authority on Thursday said the facility is being allowed to operate “in an effort to facilitate cargo clearance”.

The cargo facility will now open alongside other businesses that are offering basic to essential goods and services. The list comprises pharmacies, supermarkets, banks, gas stations, private medical facilities, fisherfolk, farmers, bakeries, office supply stores, money transfer services, hardware stores and minimarkets.

These businesses are permitted to operate between 6 am to 6 pm with the exception of supermarkets who are allowed open from 8 am to 9 pm on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4.

Persons with surnames beginning with the letters ‘J’ through to ‘R’ will be allowed to leave their homes to stock up on groceries between 8 am and 9 pm on Friday, April 3, while residents with surnames beginning with the letters ‘S’ through to ‘Z’ will be permitted out on Saturday, April 4.

“All persons with surnames from ‘A’ through ‘I’ who did not get to shop today will be allowed to shop on Friday, April 3,” Premier Andrew Fahie said in a statement on his social media page Thursday evening.

Yes the government should close the ports so that no food or supplies can enter the Territory. This will go well with all of their other well thought out rules to control the virus. The real issue is that ALL the politicians caught an earlier virus called “can’t fix stupid”. It’s running rampant through the government with no cure in sight.

What are you speaking about? The Port is open for food and supplies to enter. It is just being restricted to supermarkets and medical providers. So common folks cannot go to the port to collect their non-essential items.
