Premier: I won’t bring up motion of no confidence with UK Minister

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said he will not raise the upcoming motion of no confidence against him with UK Overseas Territories (OT) Minister Stephen Doughty during the minister’s upcoming visit.

Minister Doughty is scheduled to be in the Virgin Islands from Monday, November 4, to Wednesday, November 6, to assess whether the Order in Council, currently held over the Territory, should be lifted.

During an interview on ZBVI Radio last Friday, the Premier responded to questions about whether he would discuss the motion with Doughty.

“I won’t be discussing it,” he said. “The minister will be meeting with the Opposition, and they will be able to speak to him about whatever they would like, but I won’t be bringing it up.”

Premier Wheatley indicated that he intends to focus on other priority areas during the discussions, including governance reforms, financial services — a portfolio he recently took on — and climate resilience.

In September, the Premier and other BVI officials traveled to the UK to advocate for the lifting of the Order in Council, despite the Territory not meeting the August 31 Commission of Inquiry (COI) deadline. Wheatley highlighted the government’s significant progress in pursuing sustainable development goals as evidence of its commitment.

Minister Doughty previously stated that he would need to personally visit the Territory to assess the progress made before making a final decision on lifting the Order.

I hope the UK minister will take a good look at roads and the garbage lying around from seven years ago, and talk to some of the people of the BVI. I hope the opposition will push the no confidence so the minster can see beyond what Natalio Wheatley shows when he is in the kissing up.

  13. No confidence says:

Dear UK OT Minister, please ask Sowande:
    1) why he walked out the honorable house to avoid the no confidence vote

    2) why he fired the honorable deputy Premier to replace her with a member of the opposition

    3) why the people of the virgin islands are begging for the bare minimum standard in infrastructure and cannot see where all our tax money went

    4) why the government received a 100 mil loan without discussing it with the house and why they feel the need to abuse the people’s money to go on trips

    5) why the Premier GAVE AWAY 1/4 of a MILLION DOLLARS, following begging from a single member of the public, to fund a concert hosting a convicted criminal that is not in the country’s best interest at all

    6) why the primer, being the minister of finance, seriously understated the finances of the territory in terms of the salary of the public servants

    7) how many grants were given away (including to boyfriends, mothers and sisters of ministers) and why were they all not properly accounted for

    8) why they operating like they need the UK to take over due to extreme incompetence or purely wicked intentions driven by greed with no regard for the law or the people.

I really think the OT Minister coming to the BVI to fire the Primer, dissolve the House and order a new election or to end the constitution and take over the territory.

DO NOT underestimate the power of a letter from a woman scorned or the opposition.

Someone HAS TO GET FIRED! This shite CANNOT continue. The young man has lost the plot, allegedly and is not serving the interest of the country or the people. The UK has an obligation to the people to remove him FORTHWITH!
