Remove all derelicts for hurricane season, residents told

PRESS RELEASE: Residents of the Virgin Islands are asked to do their part and be prepared this hurricane season. Persons are asked to:

  1. Remove all derelict vehicles and heavy equipment not in use from roadways
  2. Clear waterways of derelict boats
  3. Clear all debris and loose garbage on the property
  4. Refrain from throwing bulky garbage in ghuts and drains

These items can be swept away during natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods and cause blockage of free-flowing water to ghuts, drains or off the roadway that may result in flooding.

For assistance please telephone the following recovery hotlines: Public Works Department at 468-6006 and Water and Sewerage Department at 468- 6000.

For some, clearing all the debris is overwhelming, or maybe they are not physically able or have little support. I would be willing to build a team to come to houses to help clear debris…..would this be of use? ideas of how to spread the word, to get volunteers and find those in need of help?
