Rogue public officer should be an elected leader — Skelton Cline
Controversial radio host Claude Skelton Cline has said ‘rogue’ public officer Najan Christopher would be a great candidate for elected office in the BVI.
Christopher is the public officer who was arrested and charged this week after reportedly sending a diplomatic note to the United States (US) courts earlier this year, in an attempt to free disgraced former Premier, Andrew Fahie. Christopher was charged for breach of trust by a public officer and false assumption of authority.
Just hours after she was slapped with these charges, Skelton Cline appeared on his Honestly Speaking radio show and said Christopher is among several outstanding women he thinks should contest the next general election in the BVI.
“I think that Shaina Smith; this is a good time for her to run. I think Najan Christopher is a good, excellent candidate…offer herself for elected office,” Skelton Cline said.
“These are two women I want to add to the list. Notice I haven’t said anything yet about where they should run. We still have a district and an At-Large system,” Skelton Cline stated.
For several weeks now, the pastor and radio host has been using his radio show to preach the gospel of female leaders in the BVI. He says women are needed now because they would bring a fresh perspective to BVI politics especially now that relations with the UK aren’t the best.
“There is a tremendous need for some fresh set of eyes, ears, mouthpieces, spirits. This is an ideal time. Sometimes we have to plant these things in the atmosphere to get people to think and work through some of the challenges we face and who can meet the moment and get us to a new place,” Skelton Cline posited.

So Cline wants the UK to suspend the constitution and take over running the territory, as that is exactly what would happen if this woman ever got elected during this 2 years of sorting out the territory.

if I was in ms Christopher position at the time she wrote the letter on behalf of the premier I would have done the same.since Andrew fahie was the premier of the Virgin Islands at the time the letter was written she had all right to do it.the premier of the Virgin Islands give instructions and it should be carried out once it’s within ms Christopher scope of work and I think it was legal .the present premier is such a coward that he don’t want to say well it was mentioned to me and I did not object. If Premier Fahie had travelled to the USA on a BVI or UK diplomatic passport, then there would have been no need for the “rogue” letter issued by Ms.Christopher.
There and then, when faced with arrest, Premier Fahie could have invoked his DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY,
and let the pieces fall where they may.
Of course the BVI/UK Government would have had to support his claim to such immunity OFFICIALLY.
This is what exactly got us in this f**king mess. I have nothing against the lady but what has she done for him to make such a pronouncement? Fahie and others are alleged to have planned to allow thousands of kilos of cocaine to pass through BVI. Some of it was also supposed to stay in BVI as payment for the services of one of the accused. Where do you think this cocaine was going? It’s bad enough to get involved in trafficking it one but allowing it to stay would have meant more addicts and more crime, especially more violent crime.
This woman wrote a letter to the US authorities demanding his release. She had NO AUTHORITY to write this letter. None. Zilch. Nada. She is not the Permanent Secretary, she is not the Deputy Permanent Secretary and she is certainly not the Governor – none of which, I might add, would have had the authority to issue such a letter. That letter could only have been issued from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, nowhere else and certainly by nobody in the BVI.
And yet we have CSC claiming she is fit for office?? Really? What kind of message would that send internationally for this jurisdiction to have such a l**se ca**on actually be elected?? What kind of message is it sending when we continually justify wrong? Is corruption so endemic that we don’t even recognize it when we see it?

At the very minimum, dispatching that diplomatic note under the circumstances was an exercise in poor/bad judgment, on the part of Ms. Christopher. As a consequence any foray into elective politics in this upcoming election cycle is ill advised.
I also find it intriguing that Claude Skelton Cline is suddenly embarking on a crusade to elect female representatives. The same man who a few years back pilloried one of the BVI’s most illustrious daughters who was seeking political office then by referring to her as an empty kerosene pan or words to that effect.
