RVIPF clarifies arrest of person of interest in circulating video
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has clarified that the individual seen in a widely circulated video is a person of interest in ongoing burglary investigations and not an escaped convict, as previously stated in some local circles.
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 20, the RVIPF refuted claims that the man had escaped custody while receiving medical treatment.
“Officers of the Criminal Investigations Department arrested the person as a person of interest in ongoing burglary investigations,” the statement read.
Police confirmed that the individual was apprehended while walking along the highway and urged the public to correct any misinformation regarding an escape.
“If you have circulated the escape narrative, please make the necessary corrections,” the RVIPF requested.
The video in question shows plainclothes officers pursuing and detaining a male individual near the B&F Medical Complex before placing him in a police vehicle.
