RVIPF investigates weekend shooting

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed a shooting incident near Greenland Field shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday, February 9.

“Initial inquiries indicate that a group of males were approached by three masked individuals. Upon seeing what appeared to be a firearm, one of the victims fled, prompting shots to be fired in his direction,” the RVIPF stated.

One person sustained minor injuries while escaping, but no other injuries have been reported. The investigation remains ongoing.

This marks the second gun-related incident over the weekend, following the arrest of thirty-two-year-old George Ollivierre Jr. on Friday, February 7. Ollivierre has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and two counts of unlawful possession of explosives.

According to the RVIPF, his arrest resulted from a targeted operation investigating suspected firearm possession. Three males were taken into custody, but no further details have been provided regarding the other two individuals.

Crime in the territory has risen by twelve percent, with gun-related offences being a primary concern. The RVIPF has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing illegal firearm possession and tackling gun-related crimes in the British Virgin Islands.
