Search underway for missing sailor

VISAR in action

Local and US authorities have launched a search for a US national who has been missing at sea since Friday, February 14.

Reports indicate that he disappeared while sailing from St. Maarten to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

The Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) team and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) marine unit began their search on Tuesday evening, February 18, after receiving a report.

The search was triggered when a tourist discovered the man’s belongings, prompting authorities to take action.

VISAR Operations Manager Phil Aspinall confirmed that authorities in St. Thomas are also assisting in the search. Further details remain pending as officials continue their investigation.

The man’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
