Skelton warns of no-confidence motion against gov’t
Opposition Leader Ronnie Skelton has accused the government of demonstrating that it cannot get anything done and warned that the opposition will have no choice but to call for its removal in the House of Assembly.
Skelton stated, “If what is happening continues, we will not be talking for the next three years. We will probably have to move a vote of no-confidence on the government. Can we win? They have seven, we have six. But [the vote] will at least bring pressure to bear on them by us and the public.”
His sentiments were similar to those of District 6 Representative Myron Walwyn. “The confidence of the public in this government is at an all-time low and in these instances, it is incumbent upon the opposition to show the displeasure of the public by activating the appropriate parliamentary device on their behalf. I think we are now at this point,” Walwyn shared.
Walwyn accused the government of a series of failures stating, “If they have any understanding at all as to how to run the government, they’re doing a very good job at hiding it.”
He highlighted the government’s move to seek full membership in CARICOM without consulting residents, even as it ignores an ailing economy and offers no solutions to stimulate growth.
“Too many important decisions are being made without consulting with the people,” he stated. “The people of the Virgin Islands have yet to be asked their views on further self-determination.”
According to Walwyn, a previously solid middle class was on the poverty line and without jobs.
He highlighted missteps in the tourism industry, missed investment opportunities and overwhelmingly poor infrastructure among the government’s failures.
“Many are finding it hard to make ends meet. The echoes for access to a reliable supply of potable water are becoming louder with no relief in sight,” stated Walwyn.

NO CONFIDENCE IN ALL 13 MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE
““The confidence of the public in this government is at an all-time low and in these instances, it is incumbent upon the opposition to show the displeasure of the public by activating the appropriate parliamentary device on their behalf. I think we are now at this point,”
This statement by the 6 Representative Myron Walwyn, is a significant sign that the representative is for the people. Hi is the only legislature that consistently uses language that uplifts the people’ confidence and hopes.
However, his words, each time they are spoken in this manner, seem contradictory, because when he was in power, he and the NDP reneged on their promise to clear the slate clean on increment three or four times in succession.
The people trusted them and they waited for four years, then another the promise and another fours went by, then another promise and another four years slipped away. Then, as a result, the people became angry and at the right time, they let their feelings and disappointments be felt and heard at the ballot box.
To this day the people are still waiting for their increments from either party while they are benefitting tremendously financially from the bills passed to enrich themselves namely in particular, their Greedy Bill while the people suffer in silence.
So, it is difficult to synchronize the respectable gentleman with his words, and the people’s benefit therefrom so the people wait. The people have not forgotten and they are watching closely this government that they put so much confidence in and so far have received nothing bur nothing!!!
Remove the Greedy Bill now!
Yet still backing them against COI7
