Teen charged for 2019 truck crash that killed rider

Not the exact truck mentioned in the story.

A teen has been charged with dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice concerning the 2019 Duff’s Bottom accident that took the life of 20-year-old, Ryan Adams.

Charged is 19-year-old Erick Rabsatt of Purcell Estate.

Rabsatt, who was 17 at the time of the accident, was the unlicensed driver of the Freightliner truck that collided with Adams’ scooter on the evening of October 23.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said in a media release on Tuesday that Rabsatt was charged on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution’s Office who returned their advice yesterday.

The Road Policing Unit had submitted their file on Rabsatt back in January 2020 following a thorough investigation into the collision.

In the meantime, the RVIPF said other charges — Driving Without a Driver’s Licence and Driving When Not Covered by Insurance — were also laid against the young traffic offender. However, those charges were dropped because the statute of limitations accident has since passed.

Rabsatt will appear before the Magistrate’s Court on the next available sitting.
