The VIP and I will save this territory

Leader of Opposition, Andrew Fahie.

While citing cases of financial mismanagement by the Smith administration, Opposition Leader Andrew Fahie is pledging that he and his party will be the proverbial saviour of the British Virgin Islands.

“The day to save these beloved Virgin Islands of ours in coming. Soon we will be in a position to save our beloved Virgin Islands from the reckless financial management of the NDP from misuse and misappropriation of public funds [which is] against the Financial Management Act and the Protocols for Effective Financial Management; both of which were passed by the NDP government,” Fahie said.

“The sins of Dr D Orlando Smith and his NDP government will not follow the next elected government, which I will say, humbly and respectfully, will be the VIP government,”

He continued: “With Gods help, I Andrew A Fahie, as premier, would have been given a fresh mandate to a manifesto given to us by the people of the Virgin Islands.”

The opposition leader was speaking during the debate on the Recovery and Development Plan in the House of Assembly on Tuesday.

He did not contest the plan during his contribution but reminded legislators that the majority House of Assembly had effectively agreed to said plan when they voted on the Recovery and Development Agency Act back in March.

While not specifying whether he agreed with the contents so the plan, Fahie noted that the plan works in tandem with the aforementioned Act.

“This plan is the best case scenario by Dr D Orlando Smith and his NDP government at this time,” Fahie said.

Here’s a thought to save the Territory. You all hate Trump so take a page from the US Democrats. In San Francisco the Democrats voted to allow illegals and non citizens to vote in elections. Why doesn’t the BVI do the same thing but also allow illegals and non citizens to run for office. It’s what any Trump hating people should do. Don’t be like him and stop illegals. Welcome them and take care of them.

Is this guy for real? Both leaders vying for the Premier seat have served multiple terms as Education Minister in the BVI. Let’s compare their records and decide who we think would be best to lead this Territory for the next few years, I don’t think its hard to figure out which one has leadership abilities and actually get things done.

Pray tell how he will save this Territory?…

The Hon. Fahie needs reminding about the wasted money he and his croonies spent on the drag racing study, which up to this date, nobody hear nothing about.

Andrew and his VIP … set of theives were the ones who left our country broke. Don’t forget when we all found out how much money was left in the treasury how we felt. Don’t forget that feeling of despair and when we were all in utter shock at the revelation.

I for one can’t take another 4 years of VIP leadership – not now, not ever!! During their governance what did they do to improve the Territory? What do they have to show? How have they developed the Territory or worked to increase our economy and promote our Financial Services – our bread and butter? How have they improved our educational services to ensure our students are a force to be reckoned with.

How quickly he tends to forget when he was Minister, he himself needed saving…. Up to now he can’t be honest with the people and say why this happened. But we all know. Now he will be the Territory’s biggest saviour? Stick a fork in me I’m done!!!

In the four years as Minister of Education Fahie did a lot to improve education and I will not sit here and let your lies take root:
      1) Teachers were getting their bachelors degrees by 20 teachers each, every two years with UWI
      2) After school programs were developed and ran
      3) TV programme Homework programme to assist students with homework and study time
      4) Associates programme for teachers at HLSCC
      5) Alternative Education programme where persons who dropped out of school registered and attended classes and received their high school certificates.
      6) CXC resuts were always in the top two especially in English and mathematics

Further, if you truly believe or are in alignment with the NDP’s leadership, especially if there are lots more of your opinion and belief, then I must admit that our BVI, my BVI as some like to say is truly doomed. The NDP had two (2) consecutive terms…and what do they have to show? what can NDP really and truly campaign on, other than Blame Irma? Oh, port at West End and on VG, direct flights to/from the US, a completed TPP, an extended TBL-IA, adequate and equitable water, completed distribution, proper sewage management in the 7/8th, audited financial statements? respect and admiration from the rest of the Caribbean leaders and the UK?.

Let me help fahie clear up your lies and deceitfulness

      a) $500,000 medical study—unlike the wall this went through competitive bidding and if the current government be truthful they are now 8yrs later using the information to do the medical schools and lying saying that they did it for free.
      b) $900,000 project for CS—Another lie. The project never spent that kind of money and what was spent can be accounted for in youth programmes.
      c) $100,000 for drag racing—ask your minister if even to half of this figure was ever paid out. Also if this government had completed this and started this industry then another revenue earner will be around.
      d) Federal money laundering investigation—There was never a federal money laundering investigation by anyone other than the NDP who send all over the world to try to tarnish fahie to try to make him lose the 2003 elections. It didn’t work then and the lie will not work now. Plenty went the jail since and plenty will go the jail now but never fahie because God doesn’t like ugly.
      e) The lowest the education standard had ever been is now and the proof is there so this doesn’t need any explanation.

I will stop there for now until you respond again. Then is when I will tell you about the only corrupt minister in town.

Lord help us! I passed through the first district the other day and it looks like an abandoned place; especially the village where Sebastian’s hotel is trying to resuscitate. The hotel looks good but geeze, the surrounding areas need a total face lift, from the area of the school right through. The trash by the dumpsters makes it look even worse since people are still discarding furniture and hurricane debris there.

Carrot Bay and Long Bay looked a lot better. I was conducting an analysis for our new tourism season. That district plays a pivotal role because of the beaches and the hotels but the Long Bay hotel seems to be no more. He needs to attend to these areas ASAP and prove that he could really govern the small in order to govern an entire territory . I am feeling quite embarrassed to have visitor go to this area with the way it looks.

Very interesting reporting. I am from the 9th and I to drove through CGB, CarrotBay all the way down to Long Bay; stopped by the gas station at the bottom of Zion hill and drove down to the ferry pier at West End; and yes, pretty dismal as you reported. But hear this; you have to first decide who is in power; which minister is responsible for MCW. You are right MV; (kinda sound like most valuable player); but it aint. What moneys is honorable responsible for? Pittance to run his Opposition office.
Just a short while ago, I drove a worker to his residence in the Nail Bay area and turned around and headed back and stopped at Savannah Bay for a swim. Thanks to the Filipinos. they volunteered and built a very nice, efficient and welcomed gazebo and I understand they will build another 3 or 4 gazebos. I praised them and even offered them a $10.00 contribution for the 2 wines they served me from their stash; but they refused my money.
I guess we don’t or didn’t have the money to make this very much needed and appreciated positive change at Savannah Bay. I suppose Andrew Fahie and the Vip is responsible for our country being broke and nable to make simple and important positive things like this; while being run by a RDA government. It is a bit sickening reading ing to what is crystal clear, (to use NDP’s phraseology); and I can only opine that those of you still here acting as if you are in a trance, (like I am); unless you have been on or are on the NDP’s gravy train and can’t come to grips with the thought of a dried up gravy train (while the NDP and the rest of us don’t have or can’t find anything to show for the lost years of Mismanagement, misgovernance, government in the darkness, unaudited governance, +++++. If you can’t find anyone to blame the ridiculous state of affairs we find ourselves, Andrew Fahie is there; and yes, he is a big guy with broad shoulders and can handle it. When all else fails, blame it on Irma and Maria. But guess who ain’t buying the BS; the UK; Impartial UK who ain’t got a dog in the fight.

      – The Million Dollar plane: It was a huge mistake and the Government should just come out and say so.

      – The 1.6 mil wall: The records show that the work thus far has been valued at $899K and the current monies paid out to date is $915K

      – The $50 mil so called over run has been debunked many times. The value of the pier park to the BVI is enormous and for the first time in decades we have a major capital project that was completed in record time. We have two of the biggest corporations in the world so confident in our project that they signed 15 year agreements with both of them alone bringing almost 500K quality people to our shores annually. The pier park is a success so keep talking about it.

      – Nobody is fighting beneficial ownership. The Government is ensuring that the BVI’s financial services, from which we earn over 60 cents of each dollar spent, remains viable and stave off attacks by onshore jurisdictions that are just playing their own local politics and want to use our industry as a tool in their foolish game. Any responsible Government will defend and invest in defending their number one revenue stream

      – The money was transferred to the park and the park was built. The real question is why in 2018 we are talking about sewage when under VIP a certain fellow got so many contracts for it and what happened? It was wrong to transfer the money in my opinion but at least we can see where it went. The pier park is there, functioning and has been lauded by many international visitors to our shores

The NDP has made many missteps but not enough for me to consider Fahie and VIP over them, never! It’s up to us the people to hold our Governments accountable instead of falling for fake promises. Under NDP we have seen a hospital built on Tortola and in VG. VIP had how many years and gave us a hole in the hill and hot air. Education system is being revamped, we have an accredited technical and vocational school, proper youth programs to assist with training and employment, NHI which is not perfect but has saved many lives. Small Business Bureau which has assisted many small businesses. There are lots of good things done by the Government and a few mistakes. Let’s be truthful and tell whole stories not half.

They will replace senior government officials to long time party supporters and ensure persons are in place to do things they way they want and contracts, jobs etc. will go to supporters, the same thing that they now say is unfair. Give us a break please. Tell us your plans for development, youth employment, business opportunities, expansion in tourism, financial services etc. We will have over 200 kids graduating annually from ESHS, VG and the Tech School, what are the plans to ensure they have a vibrant economy to come out to. Their campaign donors are divided because the party itself has a huge internal war that has split the party in two. Only fools would vote for a party that has acknowledged that they failed many times. Look how many times the Premier has been thrown under the bus by his colleagues. @Wendy, under normal circumstances your point would be correct; but clearly not when you have an opposition of only two members. May
I also add that with 4 At large members in government, whose job description is to Represent all constituents, (without prejudice), its even more incumbent on the government to represent all the districts; unless we are operating under a failed system. I have heard, we have all heard the cries of Fahie, Frazer, Hon. Delores Christopher, (deceased) and others lament about the needs and lack of representation in their districts. I have heard Hon Fahie complain about the police stations in West End not being operable, needed repairs to the bridge in West End area, the pier at west End. I recall the NDPs representative for the 9th, at a meeting in the 9th, (respected and invited by Fahie), got up and took the microphone and agreed with Fahie on at least 3 or 4 point, regarding the difficulties of getting things approved and done in his district.
What is more difficult to understand is the fact that when taking into account the brotherhood/sisterhood of our people, our history our legacy, challenges, hopes and dreams, how on earth can those we approve to lead and represent us, turn around and Punish us, withhold from us, spite us, keep us in the dark, lie to us? In the minds of the opposing government side, the district rep may loose his/her seat because of the malintent of the government side towards him/her, whereby the perception becomes that of an absentee rep, a do-nothing rep etc; when in fact he/she begs and begs but is not being heard, cries falling on deaf ears. In the end, it is the district and its residents who suffer; not the representative.
Our system of governance is that of Representation; not one of begging

      • District 1 says:

Is there not something called a district vote? The money does not have to come from central government

Certainly some of it could be used to improve the area. It would not take too much. Simple things like trimming and grooming the bushes, putting in plants in certain areas, spreading a little tar over the hills and valleys in the roads, installing a larger trash bin to accommodate the big items that people refuse to take to the dump. These are just a few improvement thoughts that come to mind. These could never cost over $60,000.00.

It would be a one time effort and after pay someone from the same vote for maintenance.

If we get together and offer up solutions without coming on the blogs to insult each other, a lot would be accomplished!!
