Too many strip clubs! Christian Council scolded over liquor license

The BVI Christian Council (BVICC) has been rebuked for seemingly not doing all it could to help block government’s Liquor License Act that passed through the House of Assembly recently.

“The so-called Christian Council dropped the ball when it came to this liquor license thing. They should have come and put in their two cents’ worth. They should’ve made sure a lot of these so-called clubs and night spots were not given liquor licenses to operate,” The Hot Seat radio host Walwyn Brewley argued.

Brewley said that if he was in the House of Assembly, he would have ensured some of the bars — which he suggested were thinly-disguised strip clubs — would not be given licenses.

“Don’t give them no liquor license in this country. What they’re doing is illegal,” he argued. “All of them — strip clubs/brothels, houses of ill-repute, or whatever you want to call them — you shouldn’t be giving them no liquor license to operate in this country. That’s illegal.”

While questioning why there are so many strip clubs across the territory, Brewley also noted that as a Christian community, such activities go against the grain and teachings of the bible. “The Christian Council had a golden opportunity to go after the government and tell them ‘look’, but they didn’t do nothing,” he said.

Had they intervened, Brewley argued, they could have put some pressure on the current government and also galvanise the people to put some pressure on the government to stamp out such illicit behaviour in the society.

“They have more strip clubs in this country than you could shake a stick at right now … All of them are illegal,” Brewley stated.

The controversial Liquor License Act, which legislators passed with some amendments last week, saw lawmakers arguing for more accountability on the part of businesses after contending that the bill initially offered wide-ranging latitude for some establishments to gain licenses without the necessary controls in place.

This place is full of stress and the christian council want to do away with our stress reliever?

No way not at all! I rather fling a dollar at some punani than to slide it in the offering plate.

As the matter of fact the next time I go to church I will be taking out offering from the plate than putting in for me to go strip club!

Thankfully he is NOT in the House of Assembly. I am tired of people like this guy getting in the way of other peoples progress because of their personal religious convictions or other personal reasons.

The so called Christian Counsel stayed out of it, and this fella should stay out of it also. IMO, he spends too much time up in peoples businesses, and should find something worthy to do.

His kind of mindset has been prevalent in the BVI forever whereby certain people try to block the progress of others.

It does not matter what the issue is, there is always some busy body in these neck of the woods who make it their business to get in the way of others progress. The strip clubs are just the newest issue, and an easy target because it gets some people judging others from their high horses.

Now, I am not here to defend the liquor licenses of these establishment. However, regardless of ones opinions on these types of businesses, at least they are seeking legal authority to serve alcohol rather than doing so illegally.

Message to all those who have a problem with strip clubs: Stay out of them, and mind your business. Tortola has very little to do at nights and can be quite frankly boring. If some men choose to go to a strip club to unwind and watch woman shake their wares, so be it. It’s not hurting anyone other than some peoples judgmental sensibilities.

I personally have never been to a strip club, and have no interest in going to one. I have zero problems with those who frequent them however. To each his own. Go ahead…get your freak on. No sleep loss here.

Some people need to get down off their moral high horses, and stop worrying about things they cannot change.

Mr Brewely it is alleged that the very Current Premier visits these establishments. But we have allowed the Spanish to come in and spread their bad culture.

If only we had educated our people on how societies were taken over in the past, it’s not always with guns and ships but changing the culture of the people and letting negative forces come in. And some of us are fronting for them to get these licenses.

It’s okay for foreign so called Bishops to fly in here in style, chant all sorts of nonsense within the church walls, take people’s money under the false ‘Prophet’ affirmations and that’s fine, but an adult entertainment venue which anyone has a choice to go or NOT TO GO is a big problem.

I havent seen the legislation but I hope it allows every business that wish to sell liquor installed CCT cameras inside there premises. This should be mandatory requirement in getting a license.
