Two locals receive prestigious int’l scholarship
Chevening scholarship awardees Brittney Smith and Hakim Creque.
Two locals have joined the ranks of some the world’s most elite scholars to receive the prestigious Chevening scholarship from the United Kingdom.
The local awardees are Brittney Smith and Hakim Creque.
The Chevening scholarship is giving the local duo full financial support to pursue a Master’s of Law degree at a university in the United Kingdom.
They collected their awards during a ceremony at Government House in Road Town on Tuesday.
“Chevening is not just about the opportunity to go and study in the UK, to go and experience the UK; it is not just an opportunity to go and develop further in terms of your particular areas of study but it is actually an opportunity to really demonstrate your growth into leadership and that is what Chevening values. You are picked because you are the future leaders,” said Governor Augustus Jaspert who organised the ceremony with Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr.
Chevening scholarships are awarded to persons with “demonstrable leadership potential who also have strong academic backgrounds.”
