UK appoints manager for law enforcement reforms
Governor Daniel Pruce disclosed that the UK government has appointed a manager to oversee the territory’s implementation of comprehensive law enforcement and justice reforms.
The latest development comes in response to a detailed review by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), which scrutinised the BVI’s structures, resources, conduct, and standards across law enforcement agencies.
The findings highlight numerous areas requiring improvement, with some 138 recommendations put forward. These recommendations span various bodies, including the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), His Majesty’s Customs, the Immigration Department, and the Prison Service. The review also examines law enforcement-related functions within the Attorney General’s Chambers, the Director of Public Prosecution’s Office, the Financial Investigation Authority, and the courts.
The newly appointed implementation manager, who arrived last month, has already begun working with various agencies to address the numerous recommendations outlined in the controversial review.
“The security of the Virgin Islands is my top priority,” Governor Daniel Pruce stated after the review’s publication. “I want to thank all those who have contributed to this comprehensive assessment of our law enforcement capabilities. This review presents an important opportunity for us to improve and address the recommendations.”
Governor Pruce praised the ongoing efforts of the officers involved, noting their dedication to implementing the assigned recommendations. “I commend the work of officers across many agencies who have already acted on these recommendations. Their determination is commendable, and I am committed to working with all parties and the wider community to deliver a comprehensive and effective response to this review,” he added.
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley echoed the governor’s sentiments.
“This is a serious undertaking for the betterment of the safety and security of all within the Virgin Islands. It is only by working as one team alongside the Governor’s Office and the law enforcement agencies that we will be able to grasp this opportunity to transform our law enforcement and criminal justice arrangements.”
To maintain transparency, the National Security Council will receive regular progress updates on these reforms, which will be shared with the public. Additionally, HMICFRS will provide a long-term strategic plan later this year.

We’re backing you Gov. It’s about time our law enforcement and justice system worked well, to avoid the BVI falling into being a narco state.
Government needs to support the improvements, not whine. By asking “when will it stop?”, LHS demonstrates that she hasn’t got the vaguest idea what the required standards internationally are. Get learning or get out of the way!

Have you tried to access any mental health services where you are residing? Prozac can help you and if not, some heavier psychotropic medications maybe needed. You desperately need expert intervention before you slide off the cliff completely.
Get help MLV!!!!!! And a j o b…
Go Governor! At least someone is trying to sort this absolute bunch of amateur politicians from carrying on their theft and abuse of power. The people elect a party to improve the country, not let it fall into a state of shambles. Every politician who bemoans any new recommendations for improvement is obviously involved in corruption and in it for themselves and their families. It is about time the big sticks started hitting thieving hands!
You guys are so naive it’s not even funny. If you think this has anything to do with making the BVI any better, I have some prime land between some Mangroves to sell you. Same runnings, new cartel (Yawn!).
