Use the bus stop to prevent traffic disruptions, residents told
The Director of the Taxi & Livery Commission, Jevaughn Parsons, has urged commuters using public transportation to utilise the newly installed bus stop at Market Square to prevent traffic disruptions.
In an interview with the Government Information Services (GIS), Parsons revealed that taxi operators approached the Commission to re-establish the community bus service, which has been without a designated bus stop since 2017. A few years later, the bus stop was revamped and installed. Market Square was selected as the location due to its central position and high pedestrian traffic.
“Ideally, we are trying to alleviate congestion on the Walter James Francis Highway,” Parsons explained. “Buses would stop there abruptly at times, causing traffic disruptions,” he added, while alluding to roadside passengers who don’t use the bus stop.
Constructed by the Ministry of Works in 2023, the bus stop serves as the main hub for passenger collection, addressing the dangerous practice of bus operators picking up passengers at the beginning of the Sir Walter Francis dual carriageway.
The new bus shelter is 36 feet long and is designed to accommodate over 30 individuals, providing a safe and sheltered area for passengers.

If the buses don’t stop on the highway, persons won’t stand there. The drivers must do their part as well to adhere to the protocols.
POOR FELLOW
Drivers definitely need to do their part. They shouldn’t be stopping any and everywhere period. Also, police need to patrol more to discourage people from catching rides anywhere they feel like.
