Vanterpool has left NDP, party confirms
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has confirmed that former legislator Mark Vanterpool is no longer part of the organisation, following his loss of the party’s chairmanship race.
Outgoing NDP president John Cline said Vanterpool’s departure comes after he failed to secure the party’s top leadership post and subsequently distanced himself from the organisation.
“He’s gone from the party… this is his third time,” Cline said during a public address, adding that Vanterpool’s actions reflected dissatisfaction with the outcome of the democratic process.
Cline maintained that Vanterpool had every right to contest the leadership but not to expect victory.
“It is not his right to win. It’s a democratic process,” he said, noting that more than 100 delegates participated in the April 18 party convention.
The confirmation follows a letter sent by Vanterpool before the elections — and later leaked to BVI News — in which he raised concerns about transparency, fairness, and the selection of delegates.
Cline told BVI News that he did receive the letter and later responded, assuring Vanterpool that delegates were selected in accordance with party rules.
“Mr Vanterpool’s letter was responded to in line with the constitution of the National Democratic Party,” he told BVI News.
However, in a Facebook address yesterday, Cline rejected suggestions that the delegate selection process was flawed, stating that “none of the prospective candidates have any right or privilege to select delegates,” and describing claims of unfairness as “a bit irresponsible.”
Driven by personal ambition
He also criticised Vanterpool’s reaction to the results, suggesting it was driven by personal ambition.
“It is really a bit selfish on the part of the member to believe that he should be the one to win and if he doesn’t win, then he leaves the room,” Cline said.
Cline further revealed that Vanterpool withdrew tangible support from the party following the loss, including taking back office space he had previously provided for the NDP to operate from. He also outlined Vanterpool’s political history, noting that after first winning with the NDP, he crossed the floor to the Virgin Islands Party, later returned to the NDP, and has since moved in and out of the organisation multiple times.
Cline asserted that these actions cause people to question Vanterpool’s consistency and loyalty. Despite the fallout, Cline insisted the party remains intact and focused on rebuilding.
“The NDP is much bigger than one person,” he said, adding that the organisation will present “a slate of trustworthy candidates… who have the country at heart, not themselves.”
Vanterpool has not publicly responded since the party confirmed his departure, leaving uncertainty about his next political move as the territory moves closer to the 2027 general elections.

I notice that everyone is talking but we have not heard Mark say a word. I believe if Mark had something to say he could say it for himself. John just cost the NDP a whole lot. John thrashed one of their own founding members and biggest contributors financially and otherwise publicly after claiming that they are back together? This should not be a surprise.I doubt Cline would have ratified the results even if Mark had won. It was rigged from the get go to deiver a predetermined result.It the same thing I have been saying about this guy and the other NDP memebers on the Health Authority.They will not allow anything to be accomplished because it would benefit the VIP and then use that during elections. I agree that the populous does not trust Honourable Penn. Pastor Cline has also made himself questionable and Honourable Turnbull is just waiting to see where the wind blows. Honourable Vanterpool on the other hand is a veteran. If this is how the NDP treats one of its founding members and strongest supporters, then the voters should be very concerned. A veteran statesman claim the election was rigged. A party that publicly embarrasses a longtime statesman instead of resolving matters internally is not ready to lead the country.

It is safe to say that NDP will lose another election. This will be the second loss with Marlon as the chairman. Hopefully those thick headed NDPers will get the public message. There was a lot of enthusiasm by the public when the NDP convention was announced. People were excited. They were searching for hope. On Saturday night when the results came out that hope turned into pure despair. There has been no excitement or enthusiasm whatsoever from the public about Marlon and Mitch. I wonder if the NDP people realize this. You hear people all over speaking about how disappointed they are. Marlon and Mitch cannot lead the BVI and people are not even willing to give that weak combination a chance. The only people that were happy about the outcome was a few from east end who support Marlon and Mitch’s brother and father. But the happiest of everybody was the ViP. After that news on Saturday night the party at Scrub Island went into full swing. Natalio was relieved to get Myron off his back. The VIP were the biggest winners of the NDP convention. Its really tragic when you look in the mirror. BVI is such an amazing country and could be a beacon to the entire world. But over the last 10 years plus it is full of nepotism, corruption, crime, infighting the list goes on. At the core the BVI people are awesome i have worked with so many and love them dearly. Why cant we put our differences aside and just get along. I am not a be longer but from the outside it is disappointing to see a great power not realizing their true potential.

actually those increments would have been hard to pay at the time due to the floods and hurricanes. however, there was an opportunity to do so in 2020, but money was given to friends. family and boyfriends not forgetting the belonger status that was not legally earned ahead of those persons but carry on. however we are just in time to get earned increments on the heels of the next general election.

Mark had been left the NDP. Last time in the HOA he was with the Andrew held Government. Then he took his sister to the VIP to form the Government over staying under the NDP when she won.

Who in the NDP have CREDIBILITY?
The BVI is in serious trouble. We need to pray for this country which I love dearly. There is a leadership deficit in both political parties. I pray everyday for God loving and God fearing people to step forward. Most Politicians in the BVI have lost the way. Their moral compass are broken. The majority of them put self over party, most of them came into politics with good intention but lost they way eventually and have sacrificed their souls and what they actually believe n simply to get elected. The Government we have now is not managing the affairs of the country well. You see the same wasteful spending yet the roads are crap, water woes continue, electricity is off every other day, in some cases several times a day. It’s a pity people don’t really analyze things and vote based on an informed decision. The BVI need a new political party, fresh faces, fresh ideas. Most of all, we need people who fear God and love the BVI as a whole.
