Kyron McMaster from the British Virgin Islands this evening ran a world leading time and national record to win the Men’s 400 Metre Hurdles at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

He clocked 47.80 seconds over the distance.

In doing so, he has beaten one of his arch rivals, Jaheel Hyde, of Jamaica. Hyde ran 48.52 seconds.

Veteran American hurdler Bershawn Jackson ran 48.63 seconds to finish third.

The previous world lead time for this year was 48.31 seconds.

Hyde out of Jamaica, who was defeated today, had been touted as the youngster to out-run in the event. At the World Junior Championship in Poland last year, he won the 400 Metre Hurdles for the second consecutive championship. McMaster finished in third position at the World Junior Championship last year.
