VISAR’s Winter Wonderland opening for the holidays

Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) has announced that its annual Winter Wonderland will be open daily from Thursday, December 19 to December 30, with the exception of Christmas Day.

The event, aimed at raising funds for VISAR, offers a unique Caribbean twist with an ice-skating rink where children can learn to skate and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Julie Schneider, Manager for VISAR, told 284 Media that the event is a great community initiative.

“It’s a really good community effort to make sure kids get the time to go skating and enjoy the holiday, and we can’t do it without the support of the community,” she said.

Now in its fifth year, Winter Wonderland has seen increased sponsorships, including support from the Virgin Islands government. The event, which first introduced a synthetic ice-skating rink to the BVI in 2020 at Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park, is now being hosted at Nanny Cay.

In addition to ice skating, VISAR is offering lessons for a fee, and a variety of family-friendly activities are available, including snowball fights and birthday parties. Confectionery and beverages will also be sold, and in the spirit of Christmas, gifts will be distributed to children.
