Education Minister Myron Walwyn has successfully solicited more donors to help rebuild one of the many schools that were ravaged during last year’s hurricanes.

United States businessman Curt Richardson and the BVI Social Security Board are the new donors who have rallied to assist.

“Yesterday we had meetings with Mr Curt Richardson, who has agreed in principle to build a new and improved school in Jost Van Dyke; and also the Social Security Board (SSB) that has agreed to rehabilitate the Enid Scatliffe Pre-Primary School in time for September,” Walwyn announced.

He did not specify if the aforementioned donors will fully fund the reconstruction and repair projects.

The minister is also yet to announce the cost of those projects.

While thanking Richardson and the SSB for agreeing to fund school repairs, Walwyn recognized two government ministers.

“I would like to also thank my two colleagues Honourable Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull and Honourable Ronnie W Skelton for their support and assistance with these projects,” he said.

So far, the Education Minister has successfully solicited support from other donors such as David Johnson of the Oil Nut Bay North Sound Foundation; former majority owner of Roadtown Wholesale, Peter Haycraft; telecommunications company Flow; nonprofit group Unite BVI; among others.

Enis Adams Primary, Bregado Flax Educational Centre (Secondary Divison), Jost Van Dyke Primary, Joyce Samuel Primary, Enid Scatliffe Pre-Primary, and the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre are among the local schools that have fully or partially received contributions for repairs and reconstruction.

What happen to the schools in the first district?

    • @Sam says:

They don’t care a lick about the tent city for school in the District 1. Hurricane season is just around the corner. Let’s see how they hold up when the season begins. It’s shameful at least 1 building could have been already repaired for the children of that district.

I wish we still had that money that was used to build the berlin wall around the high school

    • Good, better, best says:

It’s unfortunate that you can’t get beyond politics. You just can’t say something positive for our children. The country will not get better if persons like you continue to turn positives into negatives. Clean up for mind!

      • @ says:

The comment that other blogger made had nothing to do with the children but everything to do with poor decisions made in the past that continue to haunt and challenge the progress for our children.

The wall was not a priority and on top of that the cost of the wall illustrated the scheme for a chosen few to make some serious money. Even a barber made money off that wall!

Mr Richardson, do not give them a dime until that restoration and development management agency is in place.

Also keep the government design and project management teams in communications and works, public works and finance out of it. Hire independent design and project management consultants.
