We should back the Premier as he fights colonialsm

Dr Wheatley

As the Commission of Inquiry (COI) into political corruption continues to unfold, Deputy Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley said the community should back Premier Andrew Fahie in his fight against colonialism.

As one of the most vocal proponents of greater self-determination for the BVI, Premier Fahie is known for challenging the restrictions local administrations face under the rule of the United Kingdom.

While some Virgin Islanders support this, some hold the view that such defiance of UK authority is part of the reason former governor, Augustus Jaspert ordered a COI into political corruption in the territory.

Speaking at a February 7 Remembrance Ceremony for BVI’s ancestors, Dr Wheatley said Premier Fahie’s efforts should not be taken for granted because he stands up for the people and pushes back against colonialism.

“Sometimes we get fearful when we speak about not being under this colonial system anymore and when you have a leader who is willing to stand up and fight against it, give him some backup,” Dr Wheatley said.

He continued: “Even though we might disagree with the Premier on one or two issues here, don’t take it for granted that you have a leader of a territory who is not afraid to stand up for the people and not assert our rights as people because you and I know that this thing called colonialism is not right. It’s not human. It’s not what should be promoted.”

Talks against colonial rule became louder after the 2017 hurricanes when the UK signalled that the BVI should shoulder the majority of costs for its own recovery.

However, it is unclear where Virgin Islanders stand on the matter of greater self-determination as no referendum has been called to declare a national stance on the matter.

Maybe if the Premier ran a transparent government that was fair and open and wasn’t obviously rewarding cronies with board positions and consultancies the public would find it easier to belive that the BVI had the ability to self govern without it turning into a dictatorship.

And Wheatley is an i**+t who doesn’t know what colonialism even means. Step down f**l.

But sure, blame everyone else for the problems here except ourselves. And when someone comes in to actually FIX the problems, hit hm with claims of racism, colonialism, and modern day slavery. Grow up. I am so tired of whiners like this eff tard.

How about you and the Foy pack your bags and head to Nigeria or Tanzania before it’s too late. You always spout about the greatness of Africa so why don’t you go live there and leave us here in our beautiful island to live without the c***ks like you and Foy. Sound familiar?

We will not back Fahie with this because he is a fake. I remember when certain members of the NDP were speaking about greater self determination this same Andrew Fahie was against it. When asked about independence shortly after election he said the BVI was not ready. Now because he cannot have his way how he wants with the governor he is now a champion against what he calls colonialism?
Dr. Wheatley my advice to you is to stop talking and do some work. You have done nothing to move your portfolios forward for two years. We see now that Karl Dawson was hired to do your work for you.
Also, if you only knew the true Andrew Fahie you would be quite silly to be out there backing him up.

About 15% of British people are non-white: Britain is no longer a “white” country, and so to refer to the actions of the British government as being “white men” is discriminatory, anachronistic and insulting to the 10 million British people who are not white. Britain is not the white colonial power of days gone by: time for people in BVI to appreciate that life has changed.

Your assertions are only partially correct and vital to the discussion.

The truths are, the white men, who you claim are now in the minority, are still holding the levers of power and executing those powers based on colonial precedent.

White rule and white supremacy is what the now generation of white men and people are basking in. while continuing to reap the sweets and privilidges of colonialism.

        @Jane:

Currently the UK’s 2nd most powerful political role is occupied by Rishi Sunak (ethnically Indian/Ugandan) as Chancellor of the Exchequer (previously Sajid Javid, Pakistani heritage) , the 4th most powerful political role, Home Secretary is occupied by Priti Patel (also ethnically a Ugandan-Indian). Kwasi Kwarteng is Minister for Business (he’s ethically Ghanaian)and the Attorney General is Suella Braverman (her family comes from Mauritius and Kenya). Of the cabinet, 20% of members are BAME (Black or Minority Ethnic) and 24% are women. Of all the 650 elected Members of Parliament, 200 are women (34%), and 52 are BAME (8%).

I didnt say that “white men” are in the majority, they still wield a disproportionate amount of power but things arent necessarily as conveniently stark as you would paint them.

Indeed, I believe the Queen (Head of State) is a woman, and has been for nearly a century.

The truths you like to project were entirely correct a generation ago, even 10 years ago but I am afraid that the UK has moved on and it is not quite the same (horrible, racist, oppressive)colonial power it used to be. Don’t get me wrong, the UK well deserves its reputation around these islands, but that’s the issue with a reputation, it is difficult to shake off once earned.

UK has much to do to improve its post-colonial image but equally people in BVI would do well to educate themselves on today’s UK, not the UK of the 1950’s or 1850’s. There is a political agenda taking place here, and it is one of any carnival huckster, distraction and projection. People need to keep their eye on the game and not be bamboozled by rhetoric.

But he is going about it the wrong way. How could he expect to fight against a system that he can not win and don’t have the backing of the people you are expected to lead. If this government believes that the bloggers and white men and expats then they should not be in government. The British is doing to you just what you are doing to expats, fair is fair in love and war. Only that the expats have somewhere to call home when Britain decide to squeeze those two things between your legs. Continue playing that you have a winning hand, you might find out that the next card you are dealt might be the joker. Know when to hold them and know when to fold them. Obviously you know that you don’t have the favor or confidence of the people. A wise leader must know when to run away and come fight another day. I am Joshua I know how to lead. Ask the Israelites.

I don’t want to be Governed by this present Government for the next two years. I would very much prefer the UK Govern us until a new Government is elected.

You know how when we were growing up our parents would have thought us to be quiet when we have nothing sensible to say. I think this is one of those moments. Mr Wheatley you and the rest of your team need to have a seat and don’t speak unless it’s deemed wise. The more you talk the worst this entire situation looks.
Personally I want to know who your advisor is because…… Good lord!
I also think you’re terrible at handling the country finances, you’re doing a terrible job. let the people run their private investigation if you have nothing to hide.
Let the people know the truth

Why is he looking for extra company and persons behind him. He has B…s, P…y, C….e, and those are only the head of the snake for their are many others. They are busy taking care of their cronies with taxpayers money and trying to ensure that the next two years the thankful crew will buy them another election. Well, I am not waiting for two years. I am praying from now, as are many others. God, uncover their wicked deeds. Make it all plain. Show them for what they are and what they have done to the people of these Virgin Islands in the last two years. Help the people when asked not to be afraid to say wrong is wrong. And also, God, continue to watch over these British Virgin Islands.

It’s a pity the Hon. Premier attends several churches weekly and prayer fests and doesn’t know that you reap whatsoever you sow. Our Father in Heaven don’t like ugly. And he is who you have to answer to, not us mere mortals here on Earth.

  45. Wrong says:

Why would we back a man we want gone?? That’s dumb.

  46. Omg. Stop it. says:

You youeself are skeptical of the premier’s conduct…Why push us over a cliff you wont jump..

Ever since the COI was announced by former Governor Jaspert, the blogs have lit up with some very good blogs. I luv it.

Normally, I would jump into the fray and have my say, but my fellow bloggers have proved my 2 cents are not necessary. I am ok reading because what I am reading is good.

These are the kinds of blogs I like. Intellectual airing out of our issues and discountent.

I am enjoying reading from the back of the room sipping tea while the blows fly.

Only one issue I have, however, my favorite people at bvinews are censoring like crazy. Trying to read the blogs nowadays is like playing the Wheel of Fortune trying to figure the puzzle.

They killing me. My old brain can’t solve puzzles any more, so bvinews consider the elderly before your censor. 🙂

Nevertheless, good job guys! You guys are woke. Luv it!

The only thing we the people want to hear from you is what are you going to do about the school problems and what you are going to do to correct the problems. We do not want to hear anything about backing your boss. Don’t be your boss messenger boy, If your boss has anything to say, let him face the people and say what he has to say. Take my poor dumb advise and go mouth ghost. I am curious to see who in the cabinet is going to be the next message carrier. As far as I am concern, we the people have no Government. We give you guys a chance and you blew it.

Attended several of the community meetings and was shock at some of the things Natalio said. Looks like he want us to riot against uk. He had my vote last time but no more

I say we shoul have a vote of No Confidence in this VIP goverment and get these worrisome folks out of office. The incompetence and lies are unbelievable!

  51. Wow says:

I guess Myron think he going blog his way back in.

    • @Wow says:

Stop the hate, now! Begin to support Myron. He is one of our brilliant minds. We should cherish him. Every other race would if he was theirs.

Black people truly need to recognize that they have a very grave problem wth self hate, and begin to fix it.

Again, i am a full blooded BVIslander. My roots go back centuries on both my mother and father side. I view Myron as an asset that we have and should cherish, not destroy.

However, all minds are not created equal, and the slave centuries have reeked havoc on the minds of Black people.

  53. Really !! says:

Get off Myron back . He was building education . If he did not put VIDES and online teaching don’t know where that Minisyer would have done . Damm ungrateful people . Power struggle in the school
Can’t done … Frustrating teachers more .. not allowing teachers to do what is best for the students …. Tegulations and rules not making sense … don’t want to
Listen to the teachers .. ESHS is a mess . Education regressing big time .
