Why didn’t you join the V-Day march against crime?
Though they were few, the protestors who marched on Governor Daniel Pruce’s Office yesterday succeeded in handing over their petition which calls for better policing and crime-fighting measures in the territory.
On the BVI Governor’s Facebook page, Governor Pruce’s Office acknowledged receipt of the letter saying, “This morning, the Governor received a petition from Mr Ronford Cline on behalf of ‘The Concerned People of the Virgin Islands’, expressing concern about security.”
“In discussion with Mr Cline, the Governor reaffirmed that the security of the people of the Virgin Islands is his number one priority and that he looked forward to working with all partners and the wider community in this critically important area,” the Governor’s statement said.
The protestors said they wanted to send a message to the Governor and Police Commissioner that residents needed to see more action on crime and greater efforts against so-called gangsters who are brazen enough to rob businesses.
They also said they were disappointed that more residents did not turn out to lend their voices to the cry for more crime-fighting measures, but also said they were happy to stand alone for the worthy cause.
“We will not be overcome by crime. We will not surrender the future of our children, generation, businesses, tourism or financial services. We will not surrender it to criminal activity,” said Bishop John Cline who joined the march. “Even if it’s two of us, the Bible says one can put a thousand to flight and two ten thousand.”
Demonstrations such as these have typically seen larger turnouts in the past. It is not immediately clear why organisers of yesterday’s march did not see greater public support.

Governor should have given in exchange package of varied birth control and a parenting hand book,
I have been to St Barts a French territory next door, on occasion and has never seen a police.
No poverty,no crime no unemployment
Same as Monaco
Crime and overseers are not a Must Have folks.
Wise up.
Good point… however a quick Google would have let you know St Barth’s has an unemployment rate of 6.7%. At the same time, at least they are measuring unemployment.
because it’s a waste of time
Did the owners and family members of the recently robbed store marched?
i was too busy surviving
Anything with the Clines have a hidden agenda. I am all Clined out to be honest. Don’t trust those people.
Say that one again y did he march when he church got the biggest peice of the pie of the ss money when all the poor hand to mouth people was begging bread and our reply was you are not qualified.
Church luv crime they encourage crime don’t want to here a Dan thing from da ram sheep .it have nuff thing he can march for but don’t. Go sit down .you hand can’t get no more greese herself needs a favor return now set a liars.
Hmmm maybe ppl didn’t show up because the police actually have started being on the start and this was only a ploy to get the Clines infront of the governor. I am not a pawn, thank you
Our premier doesn’t condemn criminals.
Let’s start with him shall we?
Thanks for the march we the people are with you guys you have to understand the police working with the killer and people will provide information but the police will tell them criminal friend
U kn U a rat get wit dat 1st.
Remember…….Ayo MARCH for this, I don’t want to here NO complaining when dem stop ayo and search ayo car !!!
1) Because of who organised it. We all know they have a hidden agenda
2) Because of the reason they said they were marching. They are blaming the Governor and the CoP for the increase of guns on the streets when we all know that it’s the ports that are the problem (and I don’t have to tell you the issues we have had there!)
3) Because I have a job that I need to pay my bills and feed my family. I can’t just duck out for a few hours and expect my employer to be OK with it
4) Because they should be marching against the corruption in Government and the complete failure to implement the recommendations of the COI
5) Because this was just a smoke screen to get people to talk about something other than ol’ greedy guts who’s currently awaiting sentencing (let’s face it, at least one Cline will be involved in that somewhere along the line)
6) Because crime would be lower if everyone would just parent their children and instill a work ethic rather than going for fast easy money
What is so ironic is that the Governer visited, right after taking office, the same establihment whom it is said behind closed doors that those businesses with the Arabic ownership are some of the major importers and sales people of fire arms of all types.
One then, can only wonder what is really hiding beneath the surface?
Legalize cannabis please! Its about time. Four years of stalling, to no benefit to the people.
Align law with society or there will continue to be crime when the people are criminalized and risk jail in daily Caribbean living without having done any harm.
Aren’t these the same people praying for Andrew Fahie to be released?
I am not sure if you take time to read blogs or have someone in your staff doing such. But i feel at times the cry of the people is used via such.
I ask as you come and perform your duties. Please Sir. Do not be a sheep in wolf clothing.
I say this because you have hit the ground running with the right foot ahead.
However Gov. Jaspert did as well, and left this place in the cliff.
What each and everyone of you elected official by the crown are only here for a period in time.
And you all leave still have to deal with everything
Lastly, UK culture can and should never be considered the same as the Caribbean.
So to come into another land and way of living and to try change their laws and etc. To me shows that we are not freed from slavery but rather watered down
