Will you take the COVID-19 vaccine?

Virgin Islanders and residents on social media have expressed mixed feelings about their willingness to take COVID-19 shots.

After the first 8,000 doses vaccine arrived from the United Kingdom last week, the government released a survey and invited the general public to participate and state their attitude towards the vaccines.

The results have not been shared, but some Virgin Islanders left their views below the post on the government’s Facebook page.

While some expressed apprehension, quite a number of people said they would gladly take the vaccine that is already being given to thousands around the world.

“Yes! Please tell us when it will be available,” one user said.

“Absolutely! Please tell me when and where. I’m waiting anxiously for my jab. Thank you,” another person said. Other supporters of the vaccine simply stated “yes” or “yes please” to the Facebook post.

Amid the support from some, there were many dissenters still questioning the safety of the vaccine developed in under a year.

“Fun fact … I’m not taking it unless forced or at least January 2022. Good night,” one doubter said.

“No vaccine for aids, none for cancer, and [in] one year they found a vaccine for COVID-19,” another noted.

Another user simply gave an alternative option by saying, “the one from Cuba, please. Thanks”.

The government has encouraged persons to take the vaccines but has promised that doing so isn’t mandatory.

At the same time, the government said it will now be aiming to vaccinate the entire population with the 8,000 doses from the UK and additional doses the BVI paid for through the global COVAX initiative that aims to make vaccines available to countries around the world.

This vaccine has been on the island now for 6 days. Even if we only vaccinated 500 people each day that would still be 3,000 people vaccinated. What are we waiting for? Another year to go by with no tourists?

Once the intelligent people are vaccinated, restrictions mask wearing etc will be gone. However there will still be Covid around and the unvaccinated will catch it, potentially suffer from it very badly and in some cases die.

This will lead to an improvement in the gene pool.

You are a complete A**! So the regular flu just disappeared around the globe? Give me a break, people still die of Cancer and other diseases at a rapid pace. Further, what the fearmongering media will not tell you is that lockdowns and other restrictions due to COVID have caused far more health and other situations for people than the virus itself. You cannot say it is a pandemic and it’s so dangerous when 98% of those who contract it will live without any treatment whatsoever and a huge chunk of that percentage don’t even know they have it. How disastrous a disease is that when so many don’t even know they have it and most ‘recover’ without even an asprin. Time to wise up and cut out the f**kry! The reason COVID seems ‘worst’ now is because of the weather in most places where the regular flu ran rampant for as long as we know ourselves. By April it will calm and they will credit the vaccine for it, look at the timing of everything.

Nobody is saying ‘COVID’ isn’t real, it’s just not as it is hyped up to be and destroying the world economy over it is not worth it!

So where is the reason not to get vaccinated?

And who Covid is dangerous too, are the overweight, diabetics, old people, heavy drinkers and people with other health problems.

No one like that in BVI?

      • lol says:

if in other countries with the vaccine say you can still get it what makes you think you’re immune?

        • Rubber Duck says:

The point is, are you listening, that after vaccination, it’s a mild cold if you get it. Without vaccination it’s a potential killer in the vulnerable groups.

How about an article giving an update on the vaccine procees? How many have been given so far, where to add your name to the list, why has it gone quiet?

‘Britain Opens Door to Mix-and-Match Vaccinations, Worrying Experts’

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/01/health/coronavirus-vaccines-britain.html

    Published Jan. 1, 2021
    Updated Jan. 27, 2021

Amid a sputtering vaccine rollout and fears of a new and potentially more transmissible variant of the coronavirus, Britain has quietly updated its vaccination playbook to allow for a mix-and-match vaccine regimen. If a second dose of the vaccine a patient originally received isn’t available, or if the manufacturer of the first shot isn’t known, another vaccine may be substituted, health officials said.

The new guidance contradicts guidelines in the United States, where the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has noted that the authorized Covid-19 vaccines “are not interchangeable,” and that “the safety and efficacy of a mixed-product series have not been evaluated. Both doses of the series should be completed with the same product.”

Some scientists say Britain is gambling with its new guidance. “There are no data on this idea whatsoever,” said John Moore, a vaccine expert at Cornell University. Officials in Britain “seem to have abandoned science completely now and are just trying to guess their way out of a mess.”

Unfortunately the VIP government and BVI health services do not have a roll out plan in place after 14 months of a global pandemic. Well done BVI Government for being completely useless once again!

There is no pandemic. WTF?? A few people are getting the very bad flu and sadly some die, which happens everywhere annually. Where in the world have you seen mass casualties and overrun hospitals. Remember all the football fields and other areas that were set up with mass tents and emergency equipment but never used because it was never that serious? And by the way, did the Flu catch COVID as well?

  11. The vaccine... says:

…is a GMO, chimpanzee virus, cultured using stillborn baby kidney cells that causes your DNA to create a new protein, must be maintained and administered at specific temps and within 6 months of manufacture, not effective against the south africa variant and the length of immunity or whether a vaccinated person can spread the virus is not known. Dont want it? Great easier for me!

I don’t know why the UK government is wasting their time trying to ‘encourage’ black and asian citizens to take the vaccine. If you don’t want then shut up and carry on as normal – but don’t go crying to a hospital when you or your family are struggling to breathe, stay at home and suffer with your stupidity and the symptoms.
Focus on giving the vaccine to those that want it and let nature take care of the idiots, the world will be a better place without them
