BVIEC says in-person bill payments continuing as a precaution

The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has reassured customers that there has been no known breach of their online services, but they are still encouraging in-person payments as a precaution.

In their latest update, BVIEC confirmed that their online systems remain intact while they continue to address the effects of a ransomware attack from weeks ago. Most systems have been restored, except for the online payment platform.

“Our forensic experts have determined that there is no clear sign of a breach in online services. However, we encourage customers to remain vigilant and monitor their credit card charges,” BVIEC stated.

The corporation emphasised its commitment to restoring the online service, ensuring it is fully protected against any potential breach attempts.

In the wake of the ransomware attack, the power company has resorted to estimating payments as customers switch to physical payments. General Manager Dr. Neil Smith previously indicated that their focus is on safeguarding BVIEC’s systems rather than pursuing the individuals behind the attack.

  1. Question says:

Why would you want to expose your staff to irate customers who have long suffered the inefficiencies of BVIEC?

  2. Salty Fish says:

The next question really should be – what’s BVIEC’s responsibility when it comes to the data breach and the loss of information about clients that may be impacted? If clients are found to have been compromised by BVIEC’s negligence, then what?

    Need answers, not avoidance!

  5. WTF says:

It’s 2024. BVIEC can’t expect us to believe that there isn’t a safe third party system to take payments online.

  6. One Way Or The Other says:

Rather than pursuing the individuals behind the attack we have resorted to estimating payments. So BVIEC and the criminals are working hand in hand to rip off the public. Who say BVI is not a s**t show.

  7. Revamp says:

Why the online system is down, please make provision to pay outstanding balance once a second bill has dropped instead of having to pay the full balance. Thanks in advance signed BVI community

  8. Kios says:

    Have a payment kios

  9. Lame precaution says:

More like another excuse than a precaution. There numerous internet platforms for safe bill payment. Why is BVIEC reinventing their wheel???
