The following is a media release from the BVI Ports Authority.

The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) wishes to advise the general public that the temporary reduction in select port-related fees introduced as part of the Authority’s 35th Anniversary celebrations will conclude on 31st July 2026.

The fee reduction initiative, which took effect on 1st May 2026, was implemented to support the Government’s response to the global fuel crisis and the associated rising cost of living. The measure provided temporary relief to businesses and consumers by lowering operational costs within the Territory’s supply chain.

Effective 1st August 2026, the Authority will reinstate its standard fee structure as follows:

  • Wharfage charges will return from 1% to 2%.
  • Container handling fees will return from $150 to $300 per TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit).

The temporary fee reductions formed part of a broader package of 35th Anniversary initiatives designed to give back to the Virgin Islands community while contributing to efforts aimed at mitigating rising costs during a challenging economic period.

BVIPA extends its sincere appreciation to its partners, customers, and stakeholders for their support and collaboration throughout the initiative. The Authority is pleased to have played a meaningful role in providing assistance during a time of increased economic pressures and remains committed to identifying opportunities that support the continued growth and resilience of the Territory.

As the Territory’s primary gateway for the movement of goods and passengers, the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority remains dedicated to delivering efficient, reliable, and sustainable port services while supporting the economic development of the Virgin Islands.

Stakeholders are encouraged to take note of the reinstated rates and make the necessary arrangements ahead of the effective date.
