Child contracts COVID-19 as BVI records 64th positive case

A child is the latest person to test positive for COVID-19 in the BVI.

Health Minister Carvin Malone confirmed the case in a live broadcast to the territory Thursday night, September 10.

The child’s age wasn’t revealed but Minister Malone said the child tested positive on September 9. He also confirmed that the child is associated with someone who recently tested positive for the virus.

“We pray for their full and speedy recovery,” Malone stated.

In the meantime, the minister said 20 additional persons have fully recovered from the virus, reducing the territory’s active cases to 33.

The minister said more than 4,000 persons have been tested for COVID-19 at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital to date.

“This is good news but bear in mind, we are not out of the woods.” Malone urged.

He continued: “Your compliance with the existing COVID measures has helped tremendously to limit the spread of the virus, which puts us in a stronger position to safely continue on our quest to reopen our society, our economy and our borders. Given these positive measures, Cabinet will be meeting on Friday to receive a full briefing and consider policy decisions to further guide the way forward.”

Minister Malone also urged the public to take personal responsibility and hold each other accountable for adherence to the Public Health measures that have been put in place to suppress and control the COVID-19 virus.

The public is also reminded to continue practising the necessary safety protocols such as hand hygiene, cough etiquette, physical distancing and wearing masks in public spaces.

Persons experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 including fever, cough, headache, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle aches, or difficulty breathing are encouraged to contact the territory’s Medical Hotline at 284-852-7650 to schedule an appointment for testing.

Why do we keep talking about “recovery” whenever someone gets a positive test? The virus is present in 95% of positive tests with little or no actual illness. Less than 5% of cases have any symptoms at all.

So because a person has a negative test 14 days later, it doesn’t mean that they recovered from anything. They weren’t sick to begin with! The negative test just means the person no longer has a certain level of trace of the virus in their system.

That is not a recovery. Let’s stop spreading fear, panic, sensationalism and hype! Tell the people the truth.

Just like Herpes. It is always in your body but you are only sick when you have an outbreak. No symptoms then 9 out of 10 times you aren’t sick.

If you don’t have the virus anymore you recovered from having the virus by the definition of the word. They never said recovered from runny nose, difficulty breathing, or fever or whatever side effects you are thinking about with your ignorant comment.

This government is soo deceitful that you have to pay attention to what they say and do. They were not giving the breakdown of the persons who got infected with the virus before at all – no age, gender nothing. Now all of a sudden they mention a child. Thanks for the information.
But to government, one or two children having covid is not nearly a justification for having the other 5k children in the school system home when they could be in school. Your job as leaders is to lead and manage. Develop and execute plans for the various challenges that we are facing.

    The definition of Recover

To return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength.

A dictionary is at arms reach…use it.

Someone may have heart disease, a blood clot, an STD and don’t even know it (males are usually a silent carrier of STDs). No symptoms does not mean you are not sick.

Recovery is to return to good health.
