Emergency HOA sitting being held to strengthen quarantine and curfew laws

Premier Andrew Fahie has said plans are underway to host an emergency sitting of the House of Assembly to, among other things, strengthen laws pertaining to government’s ongoing quarantine and business curfew policies

The Premier said the sitting is vital to “back up whatever actions” that local police and health officials may take against persons found in violation of these policies in place for the coronavirus pandemic.

“We wish that we did not have to do this because this is for everyone’s own good. It is not forever, it is for a short time to make sure that we minimize the traffic and interaction so that we can minimize the possibility of the virus spreading,” the Premier said during a press conference on Tuesday.

“Once persons can adhere to this, then it would make life a lot easier,” he added.

Get ready

In the meantime, Fahie urged residents to make any necessary personal preparations before the territory goes into a shutdown mode.

He explained: “As you can see, week by week, rather than shutting down the entire country one time, we are trying to make sure that we move step-by-step, stage-by-stage; giving everyone a chance to get what they need to get in place.”

“So, in case we have to close the territory down to make sure that we avoid the spreading of the disease, everyone would have known all the warnings that you could’ve possibly get. You would have gotten it, and you should be ready,.

The Premier further said the territory’s borders will fully close in the coming days; restricting any form of travel in and out of the British Virgin Islands.

Hi there I am a Canadian who has visited the Caribbean a great many times of which the BVI sis one of my favourite islands.

Did you know that the BVI is on elf only two remaining islands in the BVI that does not have a single case of Covid??

Trust me when I say You need to do everything in your power and clean everything and stay away from one another.

You are not invincible, all you need is one case and not respect social distancing nor cleaning guidelines and your health system will become quickly overwhelmed.

The BVI s are in an enviable position, do all you can and you will beat this.

As a parent of a child away at school, I know and feel what the other parents is feeling knowing that their children can’t be with them. It is very emotional, I go bed with my daughter on my mind and I wake up with her on my mind. I was so desperate to get her home, my family here and in the US was willing to pool our monies together and charter a private plane to fly her home but, that is not an option, will not work. Trinidad PM’s two daughters is in NYC where the cases is rising at a rapid rate, they also can’t get home. I pray for all of our children who is away at school that the Lord will protect and keep them safe.

The Premier’s language has changed to “prevent the spread” which leads me to believe that there are now confirmed cases.

There’s also a matter that I’d like to address and it’s the NHI restrictions on people getting more than 2 weeks worth of meds, where approvals are needed. The same problem reared its ugly head pre-Irma. Would it not make sense to lax such restrictions for patients who require monthly refills as I would imagine those individuals will be most at risk at the moment. Are we asking these high risk people to get to a pharmacy every 2 weeks and expose themselves rather than allow them to get at least a month’s worth of their medication so they can stay at home.
