Guyana could lend BVI land for farming
Junior Minister for Agriculture Dr Karl Dawson has signalled that the BVI could possibly take up Guyana’s offer to use lands in that country for agricultural produce.
Many countries that don’t have enough farmlands have been paying others for land to produce food for their populations.
Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, Dr Dawson said the possibility of BVI farmers producing food in Guyana was discussed when he met with officials there.
“It certainly came up, it’s something that the government of Guyana has on offer. Barbados has space in Guyana for agricultural production. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility as we look for ways to feed ourselves,” Dr Dawson stated.
Guyana recently agreed to allocate 50 acres for Barbados farmers to use for agricultural production. This was met with some criticism from some Guyanese who said the land could have been given to many young people who are in need of opportunities.
In the meantime, Dr Dawson said if the BVI were to produce food in Guyana, cheaper shipping costs would make the venture viable. Currently, it is very expensive to ship to and from Guyana because of the distance from the BVI and because many countries in the region haven’t been conducting high volume trading with Guyana.
With the discovery of oil and the opening up of the Guyanese economy, many are anticipating that shipping costs will become cheaper in the near future.

Do we have to wait one outside help to start planting ? The bvi been planting food for years feeding others . No one in the government seeing what’s going on in the world food in the bvi will soon be a big problem
Lorna and Karl waste tax payers money on this so called trade mission. They have reported nothing with sense since their return.
Wow interesting. But no we will not lend we will lease. Send some currency to our country. Stick a pin, this can not work. It is not workable. Who lazy a$$ tolan going to Georgetown to work farmland. We nonetheless do not mind you hiring our people to work the land for you and send some more currency into our country. Now Dawson you are an educated man. Don’t disappoint me now. Sir wouldn’t it not be the same as buying from us. Brilliant idea Guyana. Are we going to institute visas for tolans. Brilliant idea send some currency in for visas. Hope the tolans not planning to send any money back to tola we will tax the rass outta you. Brilliant Guyana pay back time. Finally Guyana did not have to leave her home to get these creepers come begging. We will accept your apology but we will make you pay. Our beautiful females however will not be attracted to you we are generally not interested in men from third world countries, even though your high official females clamor after our males even paying their cell phone bi9with money destined for locals.
Great idea but why not go to the Dominican republic like what was done in the earlier days and easier shipping to the bvi
we have our lands here themst is just laying there doing absolutely NOTHING / the CUBAN mouth champ , who everyone thought this joker would of been a Savior for AGRICULTURE , HE
failed miserably ( we all know that ) and we talking about going to another country to produce AGRICULTURE is this for real ❓️/ WE used to produce our own VEGETABLES to feed ourselves and even export some to the USVI / ( BUT ) all we hearing is WEED WEED WEED / are we going to eat / drink and smoke WEED ( all this does is expose the mentality of this YOUNGER GENERATION , and that is why the WHITE LADY is taking OVER , with the help of these POWER HUNGRY BA**ARDS who has innocent BLOOD on their HANDS ( KARMA WILL BE THE GREAT
EQUALIZER
ridiculous scheme to form an artificial link with Guyana. VIP party members seem obsessed with extracting money from Guyana. Perhaps all the BVI politicians clamoring for independence from the UK should just relocate to Guyana.

These people serious!? nobody leaving BVI to go Guyana go farm. Lets assist agriculture locally with the little we have first then we think about paying other countries for farm land. The point of doing this is food security yes? If something happens this food and farm is still in Guyana. Lets develop BVI!

SANTO DOMINGO IS A BETTER CHOICE
You all don’t want guyanese in your land. And if the do get accepted there, they are being victimized .but you want to used their land.
These BVI cowboys want to take Indian land
LET US BARGE IN COUPLE LOADS OF TOPSOIL FROM GUYANA FOR THE LOCAL FARMERS
Karl and Lorna are two waste of votes!!! Ayo go sit down with ayo stupidness. That whole Guyana trip was a waste of money.
We have land here we have fish here. We look like we starving?? Shame Shame of Ayo
What if Guyana had reciprocated like some other Caribbean Island and put visa on BVIslander what then!!
Bvislanders dont have to go Guyana
I see another shady deal coming just like Power52 solar project.
ARE THESE MINISTERS STUPID?
Maybe Guayana could run a pipeline of water for the farmers at Paraquita who trina grow here ?
More shinanigns and shiggidy politricking in the works, and the people’s money is front and center of the scheme. The big “Cnever stop, just keep finding new ways to skin the cat.
Let’s talk to Elon, land cheap on Mars- deh sey deh gat water deh to ! – Just saying.
These man went Guyana go lime. Got to be; because not one thing they come back with makes sense.
Good question I thought it was just Natalio but it look like it’s all of them, sigh.
They really come back here talking about successful trade mission to Guyana. I have yet to hear one thing they talk about that is not a better deal for the Guyanese than it is for us.
No Karl. If government wants to set up an offshore farming cooperation in Guyana that is a different story. A couple governments and private investors can put together a corporation and set up a commercial farm in the hinterland to supply foods for global and local markets.
I just gave you some free consultancy.. you can pay me just 25% of what you all paid Claude for nothing to get the rest lol
Mu mu to moo. Karl must be a idiot or did thy each get $20,000 to talk hog wash to people? We in bed with guyana now. Farmers for sale.
got 100 tillable acre paraquita, no horse runnin, grow here.
or, grow there, when boat reach you pay captain freight and take rotten perish ting.
There is a visa requirement for travelers with BVI passport only (not the UK one)
YES, they ARE STUPID.
boy look what you cause / IF you had done the RIGHT THING we would of been PRODUCING HEALTHY VEAGATABLES for our own use which would of help to cut down on the amount of dependency on imports from
other countries / in other words WE would of been feeding ourselves ( from our own home grown VEGETABLES ) and as we develop the AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY , we would of been thinking of EXPORTING after a couple of years BUT as CSC said you cause a FRIG
I hope Lorna reads the shite that she and Karl creating. Two moomoo. Leave them people and their land alone. Hmm, dumb and dumber.
All you nincumpoop VIP voters are to blame. And I am stupid for voting for that snake. Stupid and dumb. They got to go. SOWANDE CANNOT BE SUPPORTING THIS STUPIDNESS! He is not that dumb, surely! PUT A STOP TO THE FRIG! You idiots are opening multiple cans of worms. Stop acting retarded!
My dear Dr. From your statement we can see that your doctorate degree is not in common sense. Why would we fram land outside our waters, when we have unutilized fram land here at home. Please yall have to think before you speak on our behalf.
When it comes to Agriculture BVI have land enough to supply in excess, farm products for BVI consumption. Getting tied up with places for food is a bigbg nooo .We need water…that is our weak point..plenty water is what we need,
Places in the Caribbean no matter their windfall resources have been unable to build a solid economy. For reasons deep in the core of their and innate character and soul which can only be addressed by a higher Spiritual Power. No need for us to get wrapped up in an entanglement of futility and c online to self destruct. We need to take a good overhaul of our current immigration policies and go in the direction of revising our demograhic imbalance and for beneficial advances..
We have a a solid history of what has worked positively in the advancement of our economy and society and what demographic has been t h e contributor to detrimental aspects of our economy, society and life in our Islands and make the necessary readjustments going forward.
Using Guiana’s land is not a necessity for the VI. Rather,it is a form of charitable favour towards their economy. We paying like we always do. Just in case you haven’t noticed BVIslanders by nature, are NOT freeloaders. So far we have been blessed to not become of lesser mindfullness as ungrateful and unreciprocal beggars in foreign lands.
You all need to tell us what is really going on ! This donot make any sense. Karl we have one best fishing water in the world must we go to Gt. To get that too, or we can invest into it. The government give tax breaks to supermarkets on goods and still the prices gone up. Not down. How can you secure food for one country in other men country.
Lets recap on what has investments were done locally. $5M on green houses which grew nothing.
Farmers and fishermen grants which were just given out to friends they went to look for farms and could not find them here. There is another story in the news about evicting farmers off land as they are not growing anything. We need to see a huge improvement in farming here before we start thinking about growing overseas. We have a market selling nothing here empty stalls with nothing to sell.
It’s the population that voted for these politicians that are stupid. The same crooks they complain about expecting them to do better. You all put back the same thieves and now you complaining that they are stealing or they are stupid. They didn’t get into office magically, it’s the stupid population that voted them in. It’s similar to employing a thief to watch your money and then upset that the thief is robbing your money. What did you expect from a thief? I would say the politicians are very smart because it doesn’t take much to fool the BVI VOTING POPULATION. They are doing exactly what they always done and what they went into office to do. It’s more than stupidity, it’s insanity!
Why the F we put this man in!!! You want us lend land in another country to farm for the BVI!! An we can do it here!! Are you a fool?! Or a semen sucker?!!!
Dominica Republic went to Guyana for farm land too
Truth be told, I am a Fan of Dr. Dawson and a Man I respect. But it seems like ever since he got elected he has been making some utterances that to me make no sense whatsoever. Firstly, the lines about putting the District money back in the hands of Elected officials which we all know full well what went down. Now this. Maybe, if Dr. Dawson explain to us more clearly what he means by this statement about lending Land from Guyana Then, I will retract my statement. Lend Land from Guyana? How will we get this Land to BVI? lol.
For over a decade, I have strongly felt that small islands can increase their size through acquiring foreign land and using same for farming. My focus used to be South Africa, but Guyana is clearly a great pick. I like the idea especially if it lends to the territory producing its own food and training V. Islanders into all the disciplines relating thereto. If this is possible preference must be given to the farmers so linked including producing in the VI.
And, we’re SUPPOSED to EAT food grown on soil there?
I was under the impression that Guyanese immigrants left, for a better way of life, due to lack of proper food and economic stuffs..
I’m not understanding, how, their soil, can do a better job of feeding our people, than our own..
I want to believe, this partnership has a lot less to do with foodstuffs, but more with, oil, schemes, and perhaps, financial services..
#Makeitmakesense#!!
Premier S**w Wande and the A** Clown Brigade (both Government and Opposition) have little to no creativity or sense. Why do we always vote in the most stupid (Solar Power Farm deal with Power One is just one of many stupid ideas) and greedy bunch. We get what we deserve and not what we want when we vote
