Have the people lost confidence in the gov’t?

Premier Fahie

Political critic and host of the Cut Deep talkshow Cindy Rosan-Jones said the people of the BVI have lost confidence in the embattled Andrew Fahie-led administration and are not impressed by the public statements and community meetings held across the territory in recent times.

Rosan-Jones said since the announcement of a Commission of Inquiry (COI) to investigate claims of political corruption in the territory, the government’s efforts have been targeted at making itself “look good” in the eyes of the people.

“We’re here now because the Premier gave the Governor (Augustus Jaspert) “the finger”. So to make themselves look good now, they have to plant these stories and they’re foaming at the mouth, the community meetings are extended. But you know that story about the boy who cried wolf? I think nobody wants to hear Andrew [Fahie]. Nobody wants to hear them. People have lost such confidence in this administration at a high level,” Rosan-Jones argued.

Shortly before the COI was announced by outgoing Governor Augustus Jaspert, the government started a series of territory-wide community meetings to inform residents of work the government is doing.

Since the COI’s announcement, Premier Andrew Fahie has given many public utterances about his views on the investigations, his interactions with past Governor Augustus Jaspert and the political scandals he thinks the COI should focus on.

The Fahie-led administration has been in office for just under two years. It has received praises for it’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic but has been bashed by several sections of the society for victimization of public servants and having lack of transparency or accountability.

This present government as well as the past recent government are as c****ed as the day is long. This is not about UK versus the BVI. It’s about good honest governance for and by the people. Being elected to office is not an invitation to pillage the Treasury with schemes and deceit. Everything an elected official does should be out in the open for all to see. The exception would be external and internal security which is not yet under the auspices of the BVI government. Once good governance without corruption is in place then security can be added. This is everything in a nutshell.

After 20 or so public announcements by the Premier and his acolytes, and a “charm offensive” to bolster his flagging reputation, I was interested to see whether any comment would be made on the elephant in the room – the apparent takeover of the BVI by druglords, with one of the biggest drug hauls involving police officers, with countless others probably undiscovered.
But still NOTHING from our worshipful leader.
This raises serious questions about leadership, and possible complicity, and explains the deranged smokescreen of invective against the UK, dutifully parroted by the government toadies and sycophants.

The people gave this government a chance. A host of untruths were told to us by their candidates. They were very nasty during the elections. The separation of the NDP helped them to win in my opinion.
This government has proven themselves to be very incompetent. Mistake after mistake. No plans for anything and almost every decision made has to be reversed because of poor planning. They are a very unt***hful bunch and the Premier is the worst one. They cannot be trusted with the public’s purse. As we have seen money is spent on cronies and their close circle. Their incompetent cronies are on boards. People who have questionable reputations including ex-convicts hold prominent positions in the government operations. And now they brought a COI on the BVI in less than 2 years. The tourism industry is almost gone due to poor management and decision making. The financial services sector is on decline and the COI has stained our name. It is time to say good bye to a government that should not have been there in the first place. A one man government with useless others.

        Nope.

We need the U.K. to govern us. It’s a political and governmental restart that’s needed. We have proven we cannot govern ourselves without inefficiency, corruption, graft, and nepotism. We must have a non biased government that looks to the welfare of the PEOPLE and not to a political party. It’s plainly and painfully obvious. 50 years of malfeasance and inept leadership has brought us to the tipping point of the present.

“inefficiency, corruption, graft, and nepotism,” also exist in the UK on all levels of government and the private sector aas well.

Some are still fooled into believing that the UK people’s are saints. They are not. Far from it. They thief, steal and hate just like all their humn counterparts.

Where there exist problems within the BVI governance aparatuses, the BVI people should and must be the ones to fix them.

They are quite capable of doing so. There is no white English savior in uk that can do that for them.

I’m waiting though for the revolt on this administration. I’m ready to march. How about you? Nah didn’t think so.

Many people had respectful suggestions for improvement as members of the private sector and were never under any fear of victimization.

Many in the public sector know they are not allowed to take part in public protest must less threatening to storm official proceedings.

In a democracy that is disrespectful to all of us.

I have lived here continuously for the last 30 years and I can’t remember an elected govt that has been this despised by the people. I think it is not safe to say that electing this bunch was clearly a mistake.

I do not think that we should waste too much time fussing about this group, from around end of July 2021 they will likely be off battling their own court cases for whatever crimes they may have committed.

We should concentrate on how we are going to fix the horrible mess that the 2 year Fahie-led administration has left our country in, and finding people that have already proven that they are HONEST and COMPETENT COURAGEOUS going forward.
Personally I don’t think any of this group should be re-elected, even if they didn’t steal or whatever, they clearly lack courage and good judgment. You cannot be a good leader if you lack the courage to speak against what is wrong.

ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO PREVAIL IS FOR GOOD MEN TO STAND SILENT.

And unfortunately for us evil has prevailed in BVI!

You are partly correct. The fact is they who were not elected are still on the Boards and in top paying jobs. Look at Airport for eg. LHS who lost in the 4th is now a Deputy MD, RH who once run with the VIP is top notch in charge of compliance, KF who was once Speaker for the VIP is a Deputy and PL and all the other top supporting campaign team and cronies are on the Board. Not to forget the top two Security persons at the Airport… they are direct supporters of the VIP coming straight off the campaign trail. All I ask is please Andrew …please…. Don’t be soo transparent.
