Machete fight over bad parking lands VG man in court

A Virgin Gorda resident has been granted $20,000 bail after he allegedly attacked another man with a machete for bad parking.

Charged with ‘armed with an offensive weapon’ is Tudor Griffith.

He pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo recently.

Allegations

The court heard that at about 1 am on the day in question, the accused was attempting to leave a bar on Virgin Gorda when he realized that his truck had been blocked by another vehicle.

Griffith reportedly tried to manoeuvre his vehicle out of the parking lot but was unsuccessful.

He allegedly returned to the bar in an attempt to find the driver of the obstructing vehicle. The court heard that after finding the culprit, a verbal altercation sued between the two parties. It escalated into a fight.

It is alleged that Griffith went to his vehicle to retrieve his machete and the complainant did the same.

The accused allegedly approached the complainant and repeatedly struck him with the flat of the machete.

The complainant in turn allegedly struck Griffith with the flat side of his machete.

Onlookers subsequently parted the fight and an off-duty policeman who witnessed the incident reported the incident.

The matter was adjourned to May 9.

On top of that, the one blocking actually went to his vehicle and took out a machete instead of moving his vehicle which would have helped deflate the situation.
