Man dies in quad bike accident near OneMart, identified as Kehinda Frett

A man has been killed in an early morning traffic accident along the dual carriageway on Tortola Saturday morning, February 22.

Police have identified him as 30-year-old Kehinda Frett of The Sound in East End.

Law enforcers said details of the accident are still unclear but BVI News understands that the fatal incident involved a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle — also known as a quad bike — and happened near OneMart Superstore before daybreak.

When our news centre visited the scene, police had already cordoned off the area. The bike was seen wedged in a corner just off the road and was immediately near what appears to be a pool of blood that had splattered on the roadway.

An investigation has been launched into the accident which comes less than a month after two major accidents that left one man dead and another seriously injured. Those crashes happened hours apart.

ATV’s are illegal on public roads. They are only legal for tourism based businesses and a special licence is required. Just last month the police spoke about cracking down on the ATV’s and illegal bikes.

They are only illegal if your not a Belonger. If your a Belonger there are no rules. The rule of law only pertains to expats however this does help cull the local population. As larger motorcycles are imported we will see more of this.

Larger bikes are not the problem. ATV’s are not built for speed. A cycle can only go as fast as the rider wants it to go. A car can only go as fast as the driver wants it to go. You never see a bike or car moving without a person. People are the problem.

Is this the best Sh$t you can post in the wake of such tragedy? When have you ever seen the court dismiss a case solely because the individual is a BVIslander? I am just so fed up of the foolishness.

On another note, my condolences to the family and I am urging all to be safe on the roads.

BVI is so lowest common denominator that they definitely will pick up any nail that stands out rather than the common. And the common is the ignorant.

If I ever had the need to go from East to West End on a quad bike or in a car with a broken windscreen the cops will stop me.

Any of these types like in the article, they wouldn’t give a damn, in fact they’d support it just so they can hold up their rep and status quo.

        • @:) says:

Believe me, I have seen juries here dismiss cases because their cousin, aunt, uncle or mother related to the accused.

      • Blahhh says:

If this is true I hope it stays that way

Expect them to put speed bumps there. BVI solution to every traffic problem is a speed bump. Inconvenience everyone and mash up everybody car suspension for the sake of the stupid few.

You sound so stupid and your point is so terribly flawed. It’s about time someone debunk this myth. First of all the police is responsible for apprehending criminals and maintaining law and order. All Criminals whether black, white, born on Earth or Mars. About 90% of all the RVIPF are expatriates including the police chief. So are expatriates being selective in who are being arrested? That’s not the locals fault.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions are responsible for prosecuting people that are charged with a crime. I would say that more than 95% of the past DPP have been expatriates from Kim Hollis, Wayne Rajbansie, Elizabeth Hinds, Terrance Williams etc. You can only blame expatriates for failing to prosecute locals or anybody else charged with a crime.

The Governor of the BVI which has always been an expatriate appoints the Chief of police and is in charge of police and DPP. From judges to lawyers, our legal sector and judicial system are comprised of 80% expatriates. The laws can only be enforced by police and charges can only be prosecuted by the prosecution so it may seem that the blame is wrongly cast on locals.

Now tell me how are the locals in anyway responsible for “the rules only being applied to expatriates” when expatriates arrest the criminals and bring the charges to expatriates for prosecution?

While I agree it isn’t only locals and only expats this argument obscures the fact that there’s a lot of ignorance in the BVI hindering proper safety.

Everybody really does need to stop saying its these people or those people. It is a society which condones ignorant wreckless behaviour and instead goes after those who actually try to follow the rules that needs to change.

You pay insurance, drive carefully, follow the rules and the cops and nuts will sooner come after you because you seem too weak to defy the rules.

        The gangstas, nobody will touch.

UK says a whole lot worse about immigrants and they say they don’t care who don’t like it. They love to colonize nations but can’t stand diversity in their own land. If y’all hate the BVI so much why the hell fight to stay in a vile land you despise so much. Return to your country where you say is 100x better.

Here’s a new flash. The B in BVI stands for BRITISH. This is not an independent nation. BVIslanders don’t have the balls to go independent. You have all the benefits of being British but this is not reciprocated to non-belongers. That’s real discrimination.

Do you know that everyone is allowed to ride a cycle in a safe manner and within the speed limit? You don’t see the Asians on their scooters running red lights and overtaking in heavy traffic or riding like a maniac. They use their scooters to get to work and back, to and fro and don’t have time to fool around for “fun.” Even bicycles can be dangerous if not used safely and properly. The slowest car can kill people if driven recklessly. The same with any vehicle.

Before we permit bigger bikes I am still waiting for the statistics of those killed or that have suffered life changing injuries on scooters.

So far we have seen a total failure of enforcement of the laws as they relate to scooters and what results is a complete lack of respect of the law and then illegal vehicles on the road

While I feel terribly sad for those he left behind he and so many others make horrible and dangerous choices that put their lives at risk without consideration of the consequences if the worst happens and the impact on their loved ones who are left to live on.

Don’t allow bigger bikes until riders have demonstrated respect for the existing laws and an ability to ride safely.

  17. LG says:

it is a proven fact that motorcycles are dangerous, just look at statistics
even though i own a large vintage bike and would love to ride it here i dont think the roads or the drivers here can handle it safely.
is it worth killing young people just because we want to be cool on a big bike?
the current 125cc are big enough to go anywhere in our small country.

We trying to stop more family from grieving unnecessarily so shut up….you are so damn clueless. we trying to deal with the problem at its source

    • BuzzBvi says:

Saving others by stopping the nonsense that is in the heads of people that drive these illegally. That is why the comments are appropriate. What do you want to do have a constant condolences page when something could actually be done to stop the deaths, and the trauma to other innocents that they involve.

What more??? Stop more young people driving like idiots on legal, illegal, large or small, 4 or 2. Time to accept the way the scooters and other vehicles are being driven is not acceptable.

Continued empty condolences once it is too late, will not stop this happening again and again. The family will probably appreciate that and join the chorus of those that want to stop this from happening to others.
