‘Now is the perfect time to sail in the BVI’ | Local charter readies

At least one charter company has officially announced its resumption of services to international guests as the territory continues to near its reopening date to tourist arrivals.

Horizon Yacht Charters, in a media release on Wednesday, said they were welcoming tourists for the charter season in the British Virgin Islands when the borders reopen on December 1.

The company said that during the closure of the business for the last eight months, it utilised the downtime to evaluate their processes and discover how to adapt to the new COVID-19 normal.

Director of Horizon Yacht Charters, Sylvia Driver, in an appeal to potential guests, stated that the perfect time to visit the BVI for sailing is now.

“I have never seen so much marine life, dolphins, and turtles. Our environment has benefitted from the tourism break, and it’s looking even more beautiful wherever you go. Now truly is the best time to experience the underwater wonders of the BVI,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Andrew Thompson who is also a Director of the company, stated that planning a sailing trip to the territory is one of the safest ways to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: “We are excited to welcome our charter guests and know that they will experience the most amazing time sailing these islands.”

“The first four days of quarantine can be spent sailing around the islands to many designated anchorages, so clients can also enjoy swimming and snorkelling from their pre-provisioned and prepared yachts. After their negative fourth day test (testing stations will be set up around all the islands), clients are free to sail and go ashore wherever they wish,” Thompson explained.

Horizon Yacht Charters has three Caribbean bases, which includes the British Virgin Islands, Grenada, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

This is excellent Horizon Yacht Charters. That’s the way to do it. Quarantine while saying and enjoying the best of the Caribbean. I love your strategy. Keep on sailing!! Persons can lead the airport and go directly on their pre-provisioned boat and set sail. The BVI is in the perfect position to capitalise on this COVID nonsense and you just did. Congratulations!!

  2. Lets says:

Let’s just be clear. Tourist arrives its day “0”. They then quarantine for 4 days. This is actually day 5 of their trip. Then they get tested and if negative they get released the next day. This is now day 6 of the week. They have one day free. If this is not properly advertised to the tourists then you will lose them as repeat customers. Be upfront, be clear, be honest. Also, the charter companies should hook up with rental villas to give people the option to quarantine at a Villa prior to sailing.

If sailing around the BVI, mooring in different bays each night, enjoying a sunset swim, and lounging about on a beach to yourself is jail — well, sorry, but sign me up! All of that is possible during the 4 days of “control”

“I have never seen so much marine life, dolphins, and turtles. Our environment has benefitted from the tourism break”. This statement in the article struck a note with me. COVID19 with all its negatives has also given us an opportunity to rethink how we grow our economy while protecting our environment and natural resources the bedrock of our economy. Does the adjustments being made by the Charter company involve operating in such a manner that will ensure the long term sustainability of the ecosystem or will they continue doing the same as before deriving the the same result which is the continued depletion of our natural resources.

    • Yup says:

You should just keep the borders closed. Definitely don’t need the tourism sector for the economy. You have the financial sector. Oh wait!! That’s dying as well. Maybe the cannabis scheme will work. Oh wait!! It’s legal now in the US so no one will need to come to the BVI. How about becoming a tech hub. Oh wait!! The young coming out of school can’t read or write. How about steal the pay of the expat workers. Oh wait!! No expat workers since there are no tourists. Hmmm… what else can the people of the BVI do. I know, sit under a shade tree. Perhaps you should consider sitting down and STFU.

  7. St Vincent on the Grenadines says:

I heard that St Sincent and the Grenadines are taking our yachting business, because they can quarantine on their yachts until their arrival test is know, which takes w4 – 48hrs the most… The BVI were created for sailors, we have the best sailing waters, so, they will soon come back and to where they belong and leave them with their choppy and unpleasant waters..

    • Public opinion says:

Trouble is what European and American people read in their papers about the Gredadines, Mustique, Bequia etc is wonderful praise , idyllic , fashionable etc. All they read about BVI is hurricane devastation, tax evaders, random murders and drug dealers .

  8. awesome says:

Personally I think it is a selling feature. Think about it,. The BVI is the most awesome place to sail relatively close to continental North America. The fact that the govt put in appropriate measures to keep tourists safe and hopefully covid free makes it an ideal place to go. Hey that is why people are reluctant to travel. Going somewhere safe sounds awesome. I recently flew in the US and the flights and airports are quite safe. and since the BVI s a covid free don’t ask me twice. anchoring in designated locations and get away from the craziness sounds awesome right now.

A tourist would be crazy to go through all these tests for a virus that is not as serious as the flu. Get over it! The US election is over and thats all this “virus” was about. The democrats used it to shut down the best economy the US ever had just to get President Trump out of office. Its over. Lets get back to normal.
