PHOTOS: VIBE, Xtreme Band both named Road March winners

Two bands will be sharing the title of Road March Champions this year.

Four-time champions VIBE and three-time champs – Xtreme Band were both named 2018 title winners.

The two bands will share the trophy, prize money, and both have earned a spot among the line-up of artistes for the closing night of the emancipation festivities on Friday.

The bands were part of the annual August Monday Parade held in Road Town yesterday, August 6.

Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) was also one of the dominating participants in this year’s parade. The school took home two first-place awards and a second-place award.

ESHS juniors took home second place in the Children’s’ Troup category while first place went to the BVI Dance School.

ESHS then bagged first place in the Adults Troup category. Coming in first and second were Klassique HD and 2exotic, respectively.

ESHS also copped another first place in the School Troupe category while Melvin Kasak Jeffers was named the winner of the Individual category.

BVI Heritage Dancers won Best Float and the Rotary Club took home Best Floupe.

Chairman of the VI Festival and Fairs Committee Trefor Grant told BVI News the parade saw a slight decrease in the number of parade participants this year. On average, there are usually between 20 and 25 parade entries in any given year, Grant said.

He said the decreased numbers were as a result of ‘varying challenges’.

“The parade – regardless of its size – is one we were very proud of,” said Grant who thanked those who managed to participate.

The parade ended around 6pm, which was later than organisers had anticipated. Grant said the event was delayed because a truck on the parade route had ‘generator issues.’ As a result, another truck had to be used to entertain two separate troupes.

Those faces of the troops participants don’t look happy to be emancipated at all. Low self esteem it seems.
